Game 59 Starts!

Good comeback!

I’m a Posh fan, we are pretty good at doing quite the opposite!

Anyway, we’ll do our best to oblige and take the 2-0 lead and take our chances from there!

2-0? Who scored the safety?

Sorry guys from across the pond… soccer just doesn’t provide enough scoring for american tastes… and besides, you got all the looney fans that kill each other at games!

Funny you should say that Josh. I tried to watch some of the World Series Baseball last year and found it boring as hell cos they didn’t score that many runs (is that what you call them)?

Anyway, a 2-0 lead in football (soccer to you) is probably similar to a 17-0 or 21-3 lead in NFL. It’s not that often that you see teams coming back to win from those kind of scores.

By the way - I’ve been recruiting some of those guys Josh is talking about so Cardolan/Arthedain/Dwarves/Woodmen and anybody else who might want a piece of me best watch out!

baseball puts up it’s fair share of boring games - however purists like to call those ones “classic pitchers duels”… to me, they’re snore-fests… I’d much rather see a good 8-7 game or something of that sort…

Hey Witch Queen! Dont mess with the Woodmen or more of you will end up like Cykur!!

Spectre

I’m sure that my turnsheet read a lot better than yours mate. Despite the sad loss of Cykur we are pleased to report that Woodman roasties are on sale at Buhr “Flambe”.

Reports from Khamul also confirm the destruction of Buhr Widufiras. Even more roasties on sale here.

This is a courtesy message to the FP team to make it clear what the situation is with the neutrals in this game. We basically just want to be as fair as we can.

So, the situation is that the Corsairs have already declared their allegiance to the DS, and the Easterlings and Dunlendings will be also joining us.

Rhudaur has decided to join the FP (thanks for the integrity and honesty shown Brian, much appreciated).

This leaves Harad. I’ve spoken to the Harad player by e-mail and he confirmed that he wishes to drop the game. I’d rather not go into any detail on here about his reasons although if you wish to discuss it then please feel free to e-mail me about it.

What I would suggest for a fair game is that you guys ask ME if they can find somebody quickly to take up the Harad position to make a 3-2 neutral split. We are also led to believe that Eothraim have dropped after 2 consecutive special services which must be making things difficult for you.

To make it totally clear, we (DS) have no problems in the FP recruiting another player to take over the Harad nation that is at the moment neutral. I hope that MEPBM don’t have a problem with this for the reasons stated above.

I hope that this clarifies things, it makes it better and more enjoyable for everybody if the game is balanced and I hope that you take this message in the gameplaying spirit it is intended.

Good luck (well not too much eh)!

Alan ,

I appreciate your honesty but the Harad and Corsairs player never got in touch with the free side so we had no way of even trying to recruit them – same goes for the Dun player – only got his e-mail address no more then one turn before he jumped onto the Cardolan !!

I don’t believe that Clint/Harly will let us just take the Harad postion over unless he declared freep , which he most likely didn’t !! Appreciate the offer though !!

The Dun player has has told us pretty much what you said and even offered us a deal to go freep if he could just take 1614 – But since this isn’t real life and we can play and live this game with some degree of Honor and Integrity , the team as a whole declined his offer – thus most likely making this a so called short game – better to go down in flames we all feel !! Don’t think the Dun player would appreciate it if we landed armes on him stating join us or lose some pops !! Believe/hope you get the message !!

Was it wrong on our part – if this was real life and historians where to look back they would most likely say yes – but as i have stated this isn’t real life but a game and most of us get to play and live the game with a certain amount of Honor and Integrity that we like to live and play by !!

Must admit – rather liked the way the Rhudaur player (Brian) went about which side he would join (never seen that before), it was close , heard we furfilled our side one turn before you guys did – so might have been 4-0 split instead of 3-1 split – Sorry for the Rhudaur player that this game will be short as he is a decent person !! But it seems as if most of the neutrals in this game had there minds made up to join your side as the never contacted one free person and we had no way of contacting them !! Even Harad never contacted us with what was going on with him !!

Am curious though – if don’t mind answering – what kind of locate arty spells did your side start with – this is first time i was ever in a game and the freeps started with no Locate arty true spells – not one and just one Locate arty spell and on one of our worst mages – 30 pointer !! Seems also as if one or two of your characters started with curses also as we just had our first character cursed to death on turn 5 – something else i never seen before – am just wondering if Harly is tweaking the evil nations !! Just curous as tend to play evil nation more (when play solo games) as when play freep seems to go just like this game is going unless its a grudge game !!

Harly just asked us to get a replacement this turn for Eothraim – two turns missed – OUCH – which we shall do !!

Our side are realist so realize it will be a long shot for us to pull this particular game out — but hope to give your side some interesting and fun gaming till the end !!

Good gameing

Not wishing to criticise but I’d guess that the main reason that we got ahead with the neutrals is that we appear to have made far more effort in contacting them than your team did. As far as the Duns go, if I were a Cardolan player and not heard from them by turn 2/3 then I’d have personally taken the bridge out at 1614 as a precaution to prevent the exact situation that has happened occurring.

Anyway, what is done is done, we have been very, very fortunate in the makeup of our team in that everybody has been willing to communicate and co-ordinate so despite having several inexperienced players we’ve managed to make a good start.

Regarding starting spells, we were fortunate in that we did start with 2 characters with curses and we actually could have been in position to curse a couple of turns ago had it not been for a simple order failing. We also didn’t start with any LATs and off the top of my head I think we only had a couple of LAs. What you might perceive as a lucky start up might be seen by our side as competent game play.

Anyway, the offer for Harad is there if you want it and ME will agree to it to make a balanced game. Alternatively if the position is taken up as a standby then you are free to recruit the player and we won’t interfere. (The position is still neutral by the way).

I hope that you can get somebody to take up the Eothraim position. Nobody likes playing in a game that becomes imbalanced because of a player dropping and it’s an important position as well.

If we can get those 2 things sorted then there’s no reason to say that this game is over yet. You lot seem to be doing quite a good job of tearing apart my nation for a start.

Alan

Not to sound condescending, but it’s not the neutral’s responsibility to seek out and contact the FP and DS to start conversations… not that they can’t, but offering that as an excuse (them not contacting you) just doesn’t fly, nor does saying you had no way of contacting them… we didn’t get the Duns and Harad emails initially either - I simply sent an email through Harly to pass along to the Duns and Harad players… it’s outlined in the House Rules that Harly will do that for you…

The general tone I’ve heard from all neutral nations is that we simply communicated more with them more than the FP did (both in frequency and in number of nations). You’d be surprised - the Corsairs and Easterlings initially said they wanted to wait until at least turn 5 or 6 before deciding on whch side to choose, however after being ignored by the FP for the first few turns (I think they said they didn’t get any message from the FP (once the game started) until turn 3 or so), that made their decisions much easier. No neutral’s mind was made up at the game start - we simply talked with them more and convinced them that we were the best team to join. I honestly think we would’ve gotten Rhudaur too (we filled his demands as fast as it was possible for us, but he needed Arfanhil to do various orders for a few turns first), except he mentioned that his desire to play with you (apparently he’s been a teammate before) tipped the scales in the FP favor.

If the harad player does follow through with dropping (he’s mentioned various things to us, not sure what his “final answer” is going to be), I would not be opposed to Harly filling the position with a player that will go FP - I think you guys need it for balance sake.

Oh, and Alan is wrong… we started with two LAT spells, one LA, and two RA’s…

And we did get lucky with curses… first time I’ve seen a DS team be able to field a sickness squad immediately (2 had curses, 1 had sickness), especially considering that to get 200 points of damage, both Urzahil and Murazor need to have the spell, and one of Dendra Dwar or Akhorahil needs it as well. We actually could’ve had it online one turn sooner, except that a failed camp led to a failed research of curses for the third leg…

Sorry about the bad information about LATs etc. I’ve got a very bad memory!

I composed a little limerick in remembrance of one of your fallen heroes. I hope you like it. (I’m a very compassionate and caring Witch King you see).

There was a town called Gundabad.
The law there said to steal was very bad.
The Elf called Elrohir.
Saw some gold very near.
Angurth saw that his demise was very sad!

RIP my dear enemy. But… Let it be a lesson in trying to mess with the might of Murazor. The great Wyrms are our friends.

Carn Dum may have fallen but Murazor will live to fight another day. Mt Gram still stands aloft with the flag of the 1st of the Nazgul despite the unfortunate decision of Rhudaur to reunite Arnor.

Kind regards

Alan
