Is Larry a bug? Computer’s are stupid, they need rules. Based on the time the program was developed, I am assuming that many of these “bugs” are simply a case of the best they could do - If this, Then that…a choice must be made. I like Larry walking alone into an MT/Citadel and claiming it for the realm, the turn after he waved the last cheese slice to get the 2500 HC running up the mountains.
What are some ‘actual’ bugs in the program? One, even Ed, must always keep open the possibility that actual mistakes were made and maintained themselves to this day. Only if it’s possible to say “The intent of the game designers was X, but what happens is Y” can a “bug” be identified and then acceptably corrected, IMHO. Ascertaining this Intent is the problem…
Minor simplifications means the differnce between a playable game and an unplayable game. Larry spares us from dragooning the wife into the quartermaster position.
Yes, there may be bugs in the program. I am a computer illiterate. The Ruingurth encounter may be a bug. But once you accept dragons you can accept illusionary dragons. For all practical purposes Rhuingurth is an illisionary dragon.
Yay! Congrats on the takeover! Looking forward to the new inovations. However I agree that 1650/2950 should pretty much be left alone. I don’t see any reason to make any significant changes in the old game (I also don’t see a problem w/ Larry.) New versions/scenarios/editions could be made without interfering with the old game.
I believe you asked the community before if we had any ideas for other possible PBM games. I just thought of one, though it may be hard to land: Warhammer 40K.
I know Games Workshop is pretty tight-fisted with it’s products, but since they just allowed Relic to relese Dawn of War RTS for PC, maybe there’s hope?
Just thought I suggest it, as the DoW game is an absosulte blast to play! Makes me want to dig up my old Blood Angels army and start playing tabletop again…
Can’t really see it myself. (I’ve played a lot of WH in my time so it would be fun). If anyone has contacts that’s the way forwards with this but otherwise we’re following up some other leads over the next couple of years.
