1650 Artifact Hunting

Hi there,

I've been debating this with a number of friends for a while now, and as
always we are in disagreement.

If you were given the chance to find any unowned artifact (other than the
one ring) at game start, for "the team", not necessarily for your own
favourite nation, in what order would you rank your top 3.

Looking forward to some interesting reading.....

Michael

Ring of Wind, +40 agent
Ring of Curufin, +30 agent
Tinculin, +40 mage and spirit mastery

Command artifacts and combat artifacts are somewhat useful to build up
high-level challengers and threateners, but since the people you really
want to challenge (the good agents) are usually refusing challenge,
and any decent-sized army has a subcommander to take over if the
leader dies in challenge, the artifacts that give advantage in the
character war are more important.

Note that if you're trying to build up a dragon-slayer, you might
want to accumulate command artifacts (so you have a swordsman-hero
instead of a sorceror-hero), and a +2250 sword is nothing to sneeze
at, but the agent artifacts and Tinculin are the best.

A more interested question would be: what's the relative balance
among low-level agent artifacts, spirit mastery artifacts,
and high-level combat and command artifacts?

Tony (et. al.):

While I defer in general to your vastly greater experience, I must disagree with
the "details" presented below.

_IF_ certain other things are arranged and agreed to among the team (consistent
with the "not necessarily for your own/a specific nation" premise), I'd say:

DS
1. #015
2. #135
3. #188

FP
1. #015
2. #135
3. #001

Some of you (especially those who've played with me) may know where I'm headed with
that ... but I consider these the best "first three choices" with an expanded set
of "initial castings" to include:

1. #015
2. #135
3. #001 (or #188 if DS)
4. #169
5. #189
6. #188 (or #001 if FP)
