2950 question

are the neutrals predisposed to go to a particular alliance??? I read some sample turns and the relations with other nations are not all neutral as with 1650 games…some of the neuts don’t even like another…??

I am interested in playing the variant but I need to know the score before going in to play either as an aligned nation or a neutral…should there really be a neutral…

thanks

There’s really no difference between the neutrals of 1650 and 2950, in theory. In 1650, there are theoretical tensions as well.

Generally, the Duns go Free (as in 1650), and the Khand go Dark. Corsairs tend Dark, while WW tends Free, but those are less certain. Rhun is a wild card, but also a very weak position.

2950 is a very interesting scenario, and a big change from 1650. There are a lot more options in terms of development, because the moves are not as locked in. New players are always welcome!

2950 is better nowadays and more new players seem to go for it. There’s less chance of being swamped early on due to the size of the positions and so you can really develop how you want without sacrificing too much.

The drawback is for those wanting the huge combat of 1650 early on as it’ll not happen unless you’re bankrolled by teammates.

As for the neutrals the books out the window. Diplomacy is the key for those games without prealignment. Otherwise its usually 12 vs 12 which is more balanced from the start, with no VC hungry, late declaring, neutrals to worry about.

Cor = Isolated, more reduced in size than in 1650. No longer has Har to worry about, so is probably even more predisposed to want to use his navies against SGo than in 1650.

WWi & Duns = Horribly entwined. Neither can declare successfully without the other, so all their consideration is about the other rather than about the alliances. It’s essentially a civil war situation. One might try an early attack on the other, or they might come to an early agreement. In that case I’d say they’re more predisposed to go DS, as otherwise the whole of Erador is free, and many players would see this as “unbalanced”.

RhE = Feeble. Bascially should do anything in order to gain time, but consequently can be bullied by anyone without fear of consequences.

KhE = Trapped SE of Mordor, therefore pre-disposed to go DS. However his position is very valuable to FP, so they will court him fervently. Sometimes appeals to perverse head-cases who like the idea of taking on Mordor single handed.
