30 person RPG

Keeping the 4-5 players we use happy is hard enough (one of the things that
drove me from role-playing was one bloke who wanted to be everything -
doesn't 30 players mean 29 shut-up while 1 person takes turns in talking

Well, we use a live-action format. The Storytellers are responsible for setting the scene, introducing necessary NPC's, and resolving unusual character actions. Characters have simplified versions of standard Vampire (trademarked) character sheets, and spend most of the time plotting with and against other characters. The typical combat between characters does not even require an ST (although we like to be there, just in case). Contested actions like combat are resolved with rock-paper-scissors, with ties going to the player with the higher number of related traits. Certain powers and abilities give retests. I know it sounds lame, but it actually works pretty well, especially when you consider thet the real fun of most RPG's is being in character with other players.

The measure of our success is that the Camarilla (the organization to which we belong) has chapters all over the U.S.(I would estimate 1000-2000 players based on the fact that we get a few hundred players at regional events in each one of 6 regions region plus a lot of players who never leave their home town), with linked organizations in Britain and Australia (Canada is included with the U.S. and we had to cut continuity with France when they Nuked the U.S. eastern seaboard).
