Colin: Are you, or are you not, the person who leaked Team Sarumen’s line up to Andy Wright’s team? Probably via your friend C.L. Your motives were noble?
I have NO idea what you are talking about. If you are talking about the Flagship Challeneg Cup match, then the identities of both teams were supposed to be open from the beginning. There was no leaking.
I fail to see what motive you think I had - I was not involved in either team!
Ed. You think cheating is ok. The civilized world does not. Deal with it.
[QUOTE=JB.]My mother-in-law just arrive for an extended stay, so I already broke the no-drinking rule.
i take the position she could arrive unannounced, at anyday, so be prepared. since a long flight plan is involved, i’m just being overcautious.
to the subject at hand. what exactly is the big issue here. its a game, played for fun, where defeat may lead to either/both bruised ego/pride. so what. why would anybody want clint involved in this mess( government that governs least, governs best), why would anybody want to regulate this mess( the winner of a mud slinging contest gets muddy), and who wants to play with a teammate who creates this kinds mess( lay with dogs, get fleas)? this is kinda thing is basically self regulating. either your al in, or all out with this kinda snooping. it reads like a team of guys who practice this art, would fine themselves very much alone. “buyer beware” ( my latin is awful: cavet empersomething) mentality exists in the all too real world, where this discussion does not sit.

That’s not entirely fair to Ed. Many civilized Western countries have very strong traditions of industrial espionage both by companies within the country and by nations in support of national industries.

Good point cjg. A goodly portion of what we enjoy as “civilized” comes from behaviour that would fly very much in the face of such noble idealism espoused here. I would say that the civilized world punishes you for getting caught cheating, almost in a sad, empathetic kind of “you poor sod, couldn’t get away with it, well, we have to do something to set a precedent now. can’t have lazy people think they can get away with it without effort”. way… The behaviour called “cheating” is rewarded until this time.

Colin: Both the Team Leader and myself checked the Flagship rules you provided. There was no requirement to reveal who was playing. Maybe, after-the-fact now, but not then. This is a rationalization and one that didn’t occur to you on January 20th 2005 in your List defense. If, truly, you don’t see what advantages can accrue from knowing who is playing what, then it would be an example of how little you understand the subtleness of this game.
I’m glad you toned down from saying I WAS a cheater to saying I think cheating is OK. I was going to ask you to provide a concrete example of my cheating—and watch you flounder.
Let me propose that persons who can’t see the difference between fantasy and reality are persons who act the same in both worlds. But, if you have an inflexible thought pattern and a limited horizon what can the poor sod do?
Ed,
I said “Ed Mills thinks cheating is ok”. This is not the same as saying that you cheat. Of course the whole point of this thread is that what one person may consider to be cheating, might be considered fair play by someone else.
Again I ask you, what possible motive could I have for whatever you feel I did in the Flagship Challenge Cup game? I was not playing in that game (nor could I be, due to the nature of the competition). I note that my email records show no complaint from either team captain. Whatever it is that you allege I did, I assure you had no motive whatsoever involved.
As to whether I am missing the subtleties of this game, I really don’t agree with you, but frankly I don’t care. MEPBM has given me a lot of fun over the years – and isn’t that the point of any game?
Perhaps your motivation was simple carlessness. Afterall, most security breaches are just that. Now coupled with an unwillingness to acknowledge the possibility of a mistake–thus learning from the experience.
