All Neutral FA Game

I'm not experienced enough with the nuances of the FA game, but it has some appeal for an All Neutral variant:

1) small nations are realistic
2) customizeable set up
3) I have this impression that there are designated regions that can be used to "balance" the start up

So I'm putting out the call for an All Neutral FA game. We did the All Neutral 1650 that was somewhat of a hit. But the disparities between different nations and their known commodities worked against the idea from the start in many ways.

NKA, erroneously identified as no Kill/Assassination is really No Kidnap/Assassination - or more specifically, the Cloud Lord SNA isn't allowed. I think I have that right. One day we'll put together an "All KA Game" where everyone has it to balance things out (see if anyone ever moves....) but until then, forget it. Make it a WarGame (well, really an Emissary game, but I digress....).

NKA All Neutral FA. No kingdoms. End Game rule: 2/3 of Current Players vote to quit. No "expired nations count as...." BS. I'll be the first to sign up.

No kidnappings, but you can still capture characters in battle or when guarding against theft/sabotage/etc. No assassinations, but you can still kill characters with Weakness, with challenges, and with execution of hostages captured in battle or while guarding.

If you want a game with the +20 K/A SNA disallowed, that is an extremely minor change that simply means agents of the nation that might have taken the SNA take a little longer before they start kidnapping/assassinating, but they can take other SNAs instead which help such as Name A40s and Stealth and Scouting SNAs. So there can still be nations focussed on K/A orders and agent superiority in general, just don't have the specific bonus to K/A orders.

NKA is something else -- and yes it IS a little more like a wargame, but that is fine. Players may develop Weakness squads instead to kill characters, and the complaint then arises about how powerful Weakness is, even though when assassinations and kidnappings are allowed, the Weakness squad technique is a poor second cousin to agent power.

Good luck loading up stealthy agents with artifacts to make squads - all equal. Everyone starts equally, no NG or Woodmen disparities. Then you make your own choices (Set Up) and the map get's put together and away 25 players go in their quest for chaos and mayhem.

We'd have to have 1 non neutral nation otherwise the game would end on turn 1 with a neutral win so the game would have to be 24 players. Other than that there's no problem I can see with the format. If enough people are interested we'll run it although I would point people to the current NKA game we're taking setups for first as we have 20 players so it's close to filling.

I'd suggest that you have the two Kingdoms as two non neutrals (one good and one evil) that cannot be attacked by any other player since the request had no Kingdoms in it. That would make it a 23 player game - 1 per region.

I'm kind of interested in this, but would not want to commit to it until one of my current games finishes.

Question --

If all nations start as Neutrals, will the "can choose to go FP or DS up through turn 12" normal FA rule be in effect? Or will all Good and Evil artifacts simply be unavailable throughout the game? Obviously the concept is "every nation out for itself, with local alliances and wars" -- and in FA, nations of opposing allegiances can still be tolerated to each other so local alliances could still work (just not at the friendly level of relations) even if some nations change allegiance. Everyone will still start out as Neutral Men, so no SNAs that are for dwarves, elves, or dark servants -- but artifact use could be a compelling reason to change allegiance.

I might be interested either way, but more so if it is possible to change allegiance during the first 12 turns as is normally allowable in FA games.

No 175 order and all the implications of such. Make all the allegiances with other nations you want, for as long as you want, nothing "official"/hardcoded = no magic swords suddenly glowing to life because of a political decisions by some slavishly barbaric warlord, sorry... :wink:

Clint/Rob/Anyone - is that a coding issue re: races and SNA's or just a "rule" that's enforced on the way into the program? Or, please specify if, being All Neutral, we're

1) forced into being all human and can only take human SNA's
or
2) we're all human but can take any SNA
or
3) we can be any race and take any SNA

Maybe we should all be Dwarves and take Elven SNA's..? :slight_smile:

Question --

If all nations start as Neutrals, will the "can choose to go FP or DS up through turn 12" normal FA rule be in effect? Or will all Good and Evil artifacts simply be unavailable throughout the game? Obviously the concept is "every nation out for itself, with local alliances and wars" -- and in FA, nations of opposing allegiances can still be tolerated to each other so local alliances could still work (just not at the friendly level of relations) even if some nations change allegiance. Everyone will still start out as Neutral Men, so no SNAs that are for dwarves, elves, or dark servants -- but artifact use could be a compelling reason to change allegiance.

I might be interested either way, but more so if it is possible to change allegiance during the first 12 turns as is normally allowable in FA games.

I'd suggest that you have the two Kingdoms as two non neutrals (one good and one
evil) that cannot be attacked by any other player since the request had no
Kingdoms in it. That would make it a 23 player game - 1 per region.

I'm kind of interested in this, but would not want to commit to it until one of
my current games finishes.

It's a coding issue, it would be option 1 below.

1) forced into being all human and can only take human SNA's
or
2) we're all human but can take any SNA
or
3) we can be any race and take any SNA

Maybe we should all be Dwarves and take Elven SNA's..? :slight_smile:
