Another naval clarification...

Hello,

I’ve never played a naval nation and have a queston regaring navy mouvment along rivers.

It appears to me that it is possible to move along a river basically on the hexes to the “right” or to the “left” of the river(or alternating at will). This means that a fleet trying to stop another fleet has a 50/50 chance of bumping into them. Somehow two fleets can sail the same river and actually not see eachother.

Is my understanding of game mechnics (and their rather unrealistic effects) correct?

You are correct in your interpretation. The English term is “ships passing in the night” Think of Nelson’s fleet missing the French invasion fleet to Egypt in a dense fog. Or the northern Japanese Fleet, at Leyte Gulf, sailing right by the American picket submarines without being spotted.
