Any Updates for this old Encounter?

Does anyone have any updates for the following encounter? I have only survival responses in my files – no success responses.

“The character had just bedded down for a good night’s rest when his eyes were arrested by asoft glow emanating from over the next hill . . . . He entered the cave . . . . Inside was a large dark mirror with constantly shifting images of people, places and ancient artifacts. . . . Across from the mirror stood a skeleton of a giant humanoid . . . Should the character
Touch the mirror and call out a name _______.
Touch the mirror and call out a place _______.
Touch the mirror and call out an artifact _____.
DESTROY the mirror.
Try to OPEN the lock on the door.
ATTACK the skeleton.
STEAL the armor and the weapons from the skeleton.
FLEE.”

Any takers out there for this one?

I realize this isn’t much help, but I have a vague recollection reading that this encounter required a multi-class character in order to be successful. I’m afraid I don’t know what classes are needed, nor what the correct response is when you have the right character.

I doubt this will help much, but i had this encounter recently with Galadriel and chose to attack the skeleton. I defeated it and got a boost to my mage rank, just as i would from a PC.

extract from the encounter below:

"her spells, stamina, and skill proved too much for the Skeleton and it finally went down in a scattering of bones, seemingly never to rise again. Then, slowly and surely, the bones reknitted and came together once again. A voice, quaking with age, spoke. “Long has it been since I have been bested. My respect goes to you, whoever you are. But the fight was a good one and I am sure that you gained from the experience.”

No gold or anything else so i guess you need to try something else to properly ‘beat’ the encounter.

Anyone ever tried to destroy the mirror?

Al

A 285 Flee or even ignoring the encounter works. When getting this I usually use 2 900 orders. This seems to work. No need to actually challenge anything or touch anything.

You can get the artifact without going through the encounter, which is why no one knows how to get the artifact by using the encounter. Why bother?

Maybe there is a way to get something other than the artifact, or maybe it is a red herring.
