Articles (for Bree?)

Some thoughts on articles below

I'd add KS NPC recruitment and selection as an interesting article, maybe with somf of the characters.

C

Some ideas came to mind from chatting to people in the office, titles
follow. We're thinking of writing them up, what I would like is either a
player who would be happy to write it up themselves, or possible points to
put into the articles that we might not have considered, or other article
ideas or fully written articles. They are generally great to read and very
interesting even if you don't agree with the points made. (Note lots are
from our experience as players so clearly have our bias in them -
unavoidable I am afraid - they will be written as pieces from a player.)

Articles (working) titles:
10/10/10 Characters are bad
Gunboat - a player's viewpoint
How to create a Fourth Age Nation
BOFA - you're not dead until the fat lady sings
Why Emissaries are bad in 1650
Team player - what makes a good team player
Why Commanders are good in 1650
Encounters - how best to pick up your favourite item when competing
Ithil Pass - a few strategy guides
Road Building in FA
10 Commanders rule!
"You've got to put down the duck" how to play the Noldo
Mantle uses - it's not just a pretty artefact
Why DS win 1650
100% Tax

As you can see we have lots of ideas here - time to do them all - well we
don't know. None of us have a lot of 2950 experience so we'd like something
written for that as well. Any takers?

Many of these are beyond my scope. As you know, I’ve just started playing KS. I’ve never played BOFA, and have absolutely no experience (I think literally) building roads. I’ve also not played FA in ages. And I’ve never played Gunboat – not my cup of tea. Part of what I love about MEPBM is communication, coordination, and developing relationships with others (I’ve met at least a dozen players “face to face” – outside the literal Face-to-Face games that have been played, participating in one being on my Bucket List – and have a few close friendships with what my ex used to refer to as my “Imaginary Friends” – folks I kept in regular contact with even during my “hiatus”).

Some articles I might be somewhat suited to:

What makes a good team player

Ithil Pass (though I don’t consider myself an expert).

Noldo Stategy ( have strong feeling on the Noldo, though many ignore my advice)

Why The DS Win -More Often- in 1650 (and how the FP can improve their chances)

Artifact Retrieval (though I tend to be very conservative, especially on the “big arties,” and many players I respect disagree with my preferences, sometimes for reasons I don’t fully understand)

I have thoughts on some of the other ideas you listed, but wouldn’t consider myself well-versed enough to feel my $.02 would be worth a full article. I don’t like throwing shit out there without feeling I have a clear grasp on what I’m talking about (No, really! – please be kind and forego any comments on this proposition!).

Beyond that, I’m not sure I agree with the premise of some of the ideas. I believe the situations where make sense are very limited. I actually like 10/10/10s in many circumstances. The DS don’t “always win” in 1650, though it certainly is more common. IMHO, emissaries aren’t “bad” (though I agree they can be a bit of a necessary evil at times). Commanders are “good” in 1650, but sometimes a glut is very problematic. 100% taxes is also something I find very situation-specific, those situations very sparse, and have a small base significant experience with the strategy (or tactic, depending on how you look at it). I do think there are some important uses for the Mantle, but they’re limited, and some creative ways to use it, but I’m not sure I could squeeze a full article out of that…

I was thinking of a basic primer on camping. Has that been done?

I have extensive experience editing, and would be happy to contribute that to the cause. I’m also happy to review and add any meaningful experience to other articles (the “points you may not have considered”).

Questions:

  1. How many articles do you feel you need for a new Bree publication?
  2. Do you have a rough target for article size?
  3. What is the timeframe you’re looking for (beyond, ‘yesterday’)?

I’ll await some input from you, and do some mulling…

Camping sounds good. I'm looking for a broad range of articles (each gains a free turn btw). Article size - see Bree for a feel there. John is happy to do the editting btw.

Number of articles, no limit...
