Artifacts and spells in battle vs pc

Sorry to be a persisitent pain......but from what your saying then dragons
(as NPCs) with armies don't ever attack enemy pop centers ? Only the
actually troops of the army partake ?

I believe (less than 100% confidence) that the training, morale, and command
boosts are not accrued until all combat for the turn is completed. I am
very sure, from discussions with the old GSI crew, that the spells, arties,
and NPC's affect only the first combat of the turn (i.e. the army combat if
there is one), and only in the first round of that combat. And yes, the
attacking force's losses in the army combat do take effect before the pc
combat...

Capture/Destroy Pop

Army vs Army first. You kill the army, then whatever is left goes
for the pop centre.

Are you saying that:

This army is stacked in the program against the pop center with NO
changes excepting that the troop numbers are reduced? No training
for the troops successful combat? No increased moral? No increased
command rank? In other words, just another round of combat with a
new defense (pop centre)? Thus, no effect of spells, arties, Woses,
dragons, etc...?

Sounds right........

No, dragons or other NPC's with an army DO take part in attacks on pop
centers, but only if there is no army combat in the same turn. NPC's, just
like combat spells and combat artifacts, only get factored into the first
combat in their hex in a given turn. So, if you march to an enemy pc, with
a dragon in your army, and find a defending army there -- order Attack Enemy
only, don't attack the pop center unless your army will be able to take the
losses from army combat and still be strong enough to take the pop center --
WITHOUT the dragon. If your army alone is not that strong, just kill his
army, and wait til the following turn to attack the pop center. Your enemy
may try to counter you by hiring a new army in the hex, so that once again
your dragon will not affect the pop center combat. This works -- but
becomes expensive.
