I'm not sure if this topic was covered but I'll throw it out anyway:
Artifacts as it stands either offer a bonus to combat or a bonus to
skill rank. A few give access to spell lists or have some special
ability (e.g.: Aranruth- bonus vs. evil creatures).
I've noticed none that give any sort of protection, however.
Perhaps existing artifacts could be given addtional abilities in this
vein or new artifacts could be created. They might have one or
several of the following abilities:
* An additional bonus to health or protection from health loss. Rings
or cloaks of protection and shields and armor could give this bonus.
* Magical talismans or cloaks that shield the wearer partially or
fully from the effects of spirit magic. The idea of a magical charm
protecting the user from evil has been demonstrated historically in
many cultures.
* Articles that protect against agent actions. Perhaps stealth
items, which would hide the bearer from the agent seeking cause him
harm or the protection bonuses noted above. Also, perhaps an item
such as The Phial of Galadriel, which would shed light on or give
knowledge of hidden things.
Dunno about additional artifacts, but additional secondary powers could be interesting.
