Auto-input and Turn checker program

Hi,

Check army/navy movements to see if movement is stopped by terrain.
Check to see if navy movements go through open ocean hexes.

Thanks,
John

Subject: [mepbmlist] Auto-input and Turn checker program

Hello all

We're working on the 1st and 2nd phase of the program - anything that you
would like to see in it? This will cover checking of order format, checking
of distance moves (maybe army moves fed and unfed?) double skill checks and
other illegal orders. At our end it might have an improved SS turn service?
Ie if you miss the turn we put in a turn for you automatically created.

So with that in mind I have some ideas what we can do and what can't be
done, but please feel free to chuck ideas at me here. (I want to hear from
you what you want here). Now is the time to do it - changing the program
later might not be as possible - and will certainly be more expensive for
us. Any and all help appreciated.

Thanks

Clint

I think everyone who has replied to this has misunderstood. The US
doesn't get "free" service, but we do get unlimited service. Europe
tends to have metered service.

Yeh it's all well and good saying we would like x, we would like y but so
far NOTHING has been done in the (is it 10+ years) so. We're actually doing
something!

As for Macs - pointless argument here so my apologies. We have something
Delphi already we want something that is compatible with that. It took 4
months to get it.

I have no grudge against Macs etc - I know something of a lot of operating
systems - but there is convenience and Best option. Best option never gets
written so we've gone for something that we can use effectively and
hopefully the majority of the players can use. It just happens not so suit
you I am afraid.

I have seen a lot of complaints about the Email vs Postal players -
basically Email is where 95% of our players either play or have a lot of
access to. So business wise postal players will lose out. Same here for
PCs vs Macs, Amigas, whatever you want. It's not cost effective for us to
run a Mac compatible system - either in terms of capital investment or skill
use.

I could do a questionnaire on this but it appears that you are arguing for
yourselves. We can't do it. Simple.

As for Stu - "none whatsoever" Pascal knowledge. I did a course some 10
years ago for 6 months on and bits and pieces of programming over time.
Stu's not doing it.

Thanks for a well reasoned argument.

There went Mac compatability. I think Clint secretly has a grudge against
us mac users. And I think Stuart's response is "Ooohhh... strange to
touch!" It all strikes me as people who have no experience with something
and not wanting to because it's strange.

Coding in Delphi is platform specific. Hire someone who could do it in
Java or better yet C++. That way it could be ported very easily to other
platforms with minimal of effort. I think Clint just doesn't want to
admit Stuart doesn't remember anything but Pascal from college.

But like I said, Clint has it in for Macs. I think it's 'cause he has to
use one for MEPBM (remember that's where MEPBM is encoded). On that he's
got to use pre-Power PC computers (old Gil stuff!) and I can't blame him
if it causes distaste.

Thanks and thanks...

A calculator for season changes and its effect on production at
population centers. Basically something that would check if a
player's planned market sale meets that nations expected production
for next turn. Winter is rough on production for the Northmen, several
DS, etc. and sometimes calculating market sells down to the very last
coin is crucial.

Yeh we just asked GSI to do an update on this sort of thing and they kindly
declined.

GSI comes from a time where customer support from PBM companies was a
company joke.

Yeh we just asked GSI to do an update on this sort of thing and they kindly
declined.
