MacWorld sucks, I might add. I prefer to read MacAddict... much more
interesting.

How 'bout this form of flattery:

PC Magazine, PC Maximum, etc etc magazines are all laid using macs.

Ask 'em if you don't believe me. Sheepishly they'll admit it.

And MacWorld certainly wouldn't use test software that favored their
platform! That
would be unthinkable!

I've seen PC magazine tests (undoubtedly just as biased the other way)
that show the
opposite. Quoting MacWorld to prove how much better the Mac performs is
like quoting
the Tobacco industry's "research studies" showing nicotine isn't

addicting. It

meaningless.

And while it is still a little more
expensive to have a mac the difference is made up in quality.

As a Mac user you should know that not really true (other than the quality
bit). Macs come equipped with stuff as standard that poor ol' PC users have
to fork out extra for, including the inevitable tech support phone call to
resolve hardware conflicts...

Apple was and is right to control their hardware and software standards.
That way, if the manufacturer or developer follows the guidelies, you know
everything will work out of the box. The problems come when they don't
follow the rules. Microsoft springs to mind: they wrote all their own
toolbox routines instead of using Apple's and got into a right mess.

Remember the ads Apple had a couple of years back? On one side of a double
page was a Mac with the caption "Plug and Play". On the other side was a PC
with the caption "Plug and Pray". Loved it! It was so true to the
experiences of my collegues.

OS aside, I
have a number of macs in my office and my home. In the past I've had a
number of PCs. Every PC I've ever owned had to have something replaced
(except my $4000 Thinkpad) in it's first year but not one of my macs ever
needed any servicing at any time.

Don't forget, too, that old Macs are still very useful and useable machines.
Can't say the same about older PCs. Every single one of my Macs, going back
to the Mac Plus, is still used by somebody.

But it always amazes me that Winbloz users fail to see how much Redmond
uses Apple as it's testbed for the future. Heck, you guys would be still
at a command line interface if Gates hadn't seen a mac. And enjoying 640K
too I might add. Isn't reproduction the best form of flattery?

Microsoft, despite its claims to innovate, never does. They don't just use
Apple as their R&D shop, they use anybody they can set their sights on. When
the trial was on, Steve Ballmer was going on and on about how Microsoft
needed to do what it was doing in order to innovate for the user. I asked my
Windoze friends to give me examples of MS innovations... I'm still waiting.

Actually, isn't it something like 90% of *all* print publishing is done on
Macs?

And talking of PC magazines... If you want to see the difference between our
world and theirs, look at the covers of the various mags. PC mags tend to
have articles on how to stop the machine crashing and how to fix problems.
Mac mags have articles on getting useful stuff done. (MacToday, now
MacDesign, always considered PC mags the best advertising Apple could get.)

Okay - you're welcome to stop anytime soon.
