Automagic 2002c and SIM

The next Automagic revision (2002c) is pretty much ready to go, and will
be released soon. There are no MAJOR changes, though there are some
small items that will require you to use the new revision.

The most significant item is the new Scenario Import Module, (SIM),
which will be released at the same time as, (and will require),
Automagic 2002c. The SIM will import most nation STARTING data into your
Automagic file, based on which scenario and nation you're playing. (It
does NOT look at your PDF file! It just uses a database of known
starting nation info.) For example; in 1650, 2950, and BOFA games, it
will import specific STARTING scenario/nation data including;

- Capital hex location
- Artifact Data
- Character names and skills

This will only be useful for game starts, since it will overwrite all
the character/artifact data in Automagic with the nation specific data.
Also, since 4th Age is, by it's very nature, a varible game, only
Artifact data will be imported, (though it will still clear out all old
data).

The new files will be released in two compressed formats.

1. Self-extracting compressed file: This file will have an .exe
extension, and will run just by double-clicking it after you download
it. It will ask where to put the files on your hard drive, and will
extract Automagic 2002c, SIM, and a readme file.

2. Zipped file: This is simply a zipped file/folder, which contains the
same 3 files listed above.

My question is this... Will the self-extracting file work on Mac
computers? (Any Mac users out there have any experience with this?) If
not, I'm assuming Mac users have access to unzip software, but I really
know very little about Macs (as I've already proven), so if I'm
mistaken, please let me know.

Hi Mike,

I was just wondering if this new version has been released yet as I
haven't seen any message about it and the version on the MEgames
website is still 2002b.

Cheers

Something came up at Middle-earth games. They're adding a new feature to
their software, and I'm updating Automagic to take advantage of it, so
the release of the next version has been delayed slightly. It should be
out soon, though.

Is the "something" very "hush hush" then?

We've found a way to parse the information from the printed files to added to AM and MEOW. We're working on getting that sorted correctly now and then will release it.

Basically, MeGames can extract data from the PDF results files and send
it in a separate XML file, along with your PDF. Automagic can then
"harvest" data from the XML file (like current character names,
locations, and skills, for example) and automatically import the data
into your ORDERS sheet.

Work's not finished yet, but that's the basic idea.

I asked Mike to hold off releasing 2002c whilst we integrate the rather tasty PSP data packets. I'll explain what its all about when we've playtested it and it works nicely.

Whilst we could release 2002c and make 2002d the PSP version, players would then complain about there being too many files to download.
