Haven't been following the problems that have cropped up
very closely, because Automagic seems to work for me.
I'm using 1.02. I know 1.06a or something like that is on
the web site. I've had 2 turns process in my new game using
1.02 with no apparent problems. Should I consider myself okay
to continue with this game using 1.02, or would Mike strongly
recommend I upgrade...?

If you can upgrade. Each of the updates deal with any problems that we have come across. Mike is very fast sorting out updates though so I can understand a little reticence for downloading the new one.
Some of the way we format the changes for the way MAIN interacts with Automagic are implemented with each update. Hence for us (and hence for you due to the problems that can crop up) it is better if you use the new version.
