Folks,
I’m trying to import an xml sheet into excel2003 and I keep getting an error during the import of “corrupt or bad xml” file.
The thing is that this xml file works fine with excel 2000 so I know that this xml file is not corrupt.
Wondering if this is a known error and if there is a workaround available?
Cheers

Ahh ok. I downloaded the latest AutoMagic version from Mike Mulka’s site and I’ve read the instructions page for excel2003 users.
I was using an older version of AutoMagic which didn’t have those instructions in the instruction page.

So I guess the “If everything else fails - read the manual” saying is void here?
Have you gotten it to work? If not, you just have to rename your xml files to txt to get it to work, that will work eventhough it is annoying.
Had a similar problem with excel2003. I am not a computer expert. However, one of my teammates is. He solved the problem. This explaination is from memory, so please forgive me if I get some of the tech details wrong.
He explained the problem (in my case anyways) was some internet mail services will “edit” out what it sees as unneccessary to save space. Thus, if one of my teammates unzipped his turn, then sent his XML file to me, the mail server would “edit” out some of the “unneccessary” data, rezip the file and when I tried to use the XML file, I got “corrupted file”.
However, if my teammates would sent me the ORIGINAL unzipped file they received from ME and since it is already a zipped file, the mail server would not “edit” it (and thus none of the “unneccessary” data was removed) and I would have no problems.
This might help.

I had this problem a bit in the past…basically this is what I do to get around it…
- download the xml and pdf files to my harddrive…
- open the xml file w/ the internet browser ( I use firefox)
- goto file, then save page as…leave the name the same and at the end of the file name put a period (dot) and type t x t and save it like that…
- load this new file into automagic…should go fine.
I have this problem w/ autominister and am conversin w/ a buddy to get the bottom of it also…
hope this helps,
