We're sending orders in a standardized form: it's a
mind-boggling waste of time for the folks at Harly to
retype them. It also promotes errors, and despite the
excellent customer service, it's inefficient for them
to chase down mistakes (theirs) and re-run turns.
The griping over the price increase seems misdirected.
Maybe the price is too high, maybe it isn't, but it
has nothing to do with inflation. Companies constantly
evaluate their costs and re-price. When I think of the
$5/turn I paid to GSI, I can't believe I pay anywhere
near the same amount to a company that actually
responds to my questions.
It makes sense for Automagic turns to be cheaper: we
ask less of their time and pay less. Yes, mistakes are
part of the game, and my one gripe with Automagic is
that is an error-correction bully -- if it doesn't
like my input, it does more than warn me and simply
won't allow it -- but it's understandable. Imagine a
computer chess game that responded, when you
accidentally clicked a hex too far to move your
knight, by declaring your turn invalid and proceeding
with the next turn. Tactical errors, yes. But input
errors are player's heartaches and Harly's headaches.
Brad, you can get away with this

because you are careful with your input. But how many
times has Harly seen an emmy try to 320 at an empty
hex? Thanks to their thoughtful work, if they see
bradley (bradl) @ 1510 (Comm, Emis)
320 InfYour
they may handle the mistake. It's the player's fault,
of course, but if all we wanted from Harly was to
enter the info exactly as we see it, well, there's
always Automagic.
