Automagic or MEOW

Note we're investigating the purchase of Excel for our customers as a
back-up plan.

1) We have not changed the prices.
2) There is a 2nd program being created - please read ALL the email before
answering. This will be available to all (as well) and you will then be
able to use either Automagic or MEOW. Later on we're in the process of
developing other systems as player aids - and bring the game 20 years upto
date as it deserves. Within a year to two years we expect that we should
have everything working very nicely.

(We looked at the web-based version but non-US players don't like it as it
costs to be on-line).

It's nothing to do with "not liking the job" - it's making it a better job
if we can - happier GMs more happier players if nothing else. Better system
means more players as it frees us up to work on getting more players into
the game. More games means better games - more choices, variants, players,
faster set-up, more negotiating power with GSI etc. When I finally get past
the starting salary of an 18 year old Secretary after building up a business
for 8 years then I will feel that we have achieved something.

The system is being designed to HELP the players as much as anything.
Automated turns will certainly help do that and this is the 1st part of
that.

Brad (if this is you sorry I don't recognise the email address), please do
me the
favour of signing your emails on the list so that I know who I am answering
to.

Sometimes I just don't get it...

We want feedback - if you don't know that that's the way we work by now then
there is little that I can do to help you. Ranting at us does not
particularly help I am afraid. (Vents a bit of steam I know).

Clint

I'm having a horrible time getting the 425 order to
work. I can get the order itself in but the Excel
spreadsheet is rejecting every effort to record the
number and type of troops to retire.

I've tried everying -- putting numbers first, type
2nd; type 1st, numbers 2nd. Numbers in one cell,
type in other. Putting numbers in the cells that
positionally align with the types (ie, 6th cell would
be MA).

Bug, feature, or user error?

There seem to be some misunderstandings with orders that require you to list numbers
of different troop types. (355, 425, 765, etc.) These orders have always required you
to put in ONLY the number of troops, and NOT the troop type. I know that I used to put
in the troop type, also, but I imagine GSI/DGE/Harley just removed that when they
manually input the orders.

For example, a 765 order that splits off 700 HC and 1200 HI should look like this:

765 SplArmy Misc 700 0 1200 0 0 0

(This is with each entry in a different cell, and the "SplArmy" and "Misc"
auto-populated.)

I assumed this was general knowledge, so I must not have explained it well. I'll try
to update the Additional Required Info data text.

JOSEPH:
If you tried ONLY numbers (one for each troop type in each cell, including zeros) for
this order, let me know so I can try to track the problem down. I'm not getting any
errors on mine.

Glad you wrote this answer because i am having trouble with 765, 610 and
870. 765 is splarmy and the first entry should be name of commander, not a
number. 610 does not allow me to enter a name either. 870 has the same
problem. What am i not doing right?

I really appreciate you doing this. ONce we get use to it it will be a big
help.

Right you are. I should have specified about the name first, but the idea I was trying
to convey is to use NUMBERS ONLY, and not troop type designations.

As for the target character ID, most of the problems in the past revolved around not
following the instructions exactly. (The program is pretty finicky to ensure that the
data that goes into MAIN is correct.) Make sure your character ID follows all the
rules and let me know if it's still a problem.

EXACTLY 5 letters/spaces. (If the character's name is BOB, you'd need to add 2 spaces
for "bob ".)
All letters in LOWER CASE. (So "TY CO", "Ty Co", and "Ty co" won't work. I requires
"ty co".)
