BoFA advice

Jerry, fyi -- these previous postings are good advice
for ME-PBM in general.

But BoFa is a simplified version, and a smart one. It
removes the need for attention to details like:

6) Heavy Troops only. Inf and Cav only.

In BoFA, that's all you can get! Simple.

In other ME-PBM, there are occasionally reasons to
sometimes get other troops, but that's rare enough
that BoFA makes only those available.

7) Recruit, march, die, repeat. Don't think of your

troops as assets to be trained and protected. They
  are fodder.

Similarly, it's often worth keeping your troops fed,
which in BoFA is easy.

I still haven't heard from Clint, but I assume we're
in the same game -- email me for details on fed
movement.

Modifiers

  to strength... etc

Again, for BoFA, this is much simplified. The key rule
is that metal gives more payoff as armor than as
weapons (unless you need the offense boost against a
pc).

8) Don't worry about nation/terrian,

nation/climate,
  troop/terrain, morale, training, or weapon
modifiers.
They get so averaged together that each has little
  effect.

I agree that you shouldn't worry about them. But if
you have a very close battle, as we did in my last
game of BoFA (where we took the Northmen capital, even
upgraded with a Castle -- watch out, Jerry!), then
obsessive-types will want to check carefully.

9) Don't be afraid of deficits as long as you can

cover with product sales. Mithril and food are made
  to be sold.

Mithril, yes. But a typical player leaves his troops
unfed while selling food -- often paying for, say, two
more turns march of 1500HI while selling food for a
fraction of the additional cost.

It's bad economics, and bad strategy. If food moves
you to the front faster, feed your troops.

12) You can't transfer troops (355 order) the turn

  they are recruited (400s).

You can't transfer them at all in BoFA. Simple.

13) Economics: Another tough one

Simplified: don't worry about taxes (set to a sensible
60% in BoFA).

Plan one turn ahead! Your expenses are fixed for the
coming turn, so if they need adjusting, it must be
done in advance.

You get no production or income from a pc that is
attacked, so subtract them from the "expected" revenue
section on your sheet.

Cheers,

Dan

Hi,

Thanks for the info! Can you tell me if I move an army through a pc
is it possible to recruit, transfer to that army and move to the
next pc and repeat until I get to my desired attack point?

Keep in mind the sequence of orders.

Recruiting happens before movement. So if you start the turn in a pop
center, you can recruit there and move to another pop center, then
recruit there the next turn. But you can't recruit from a place
you're just moving through.

You're complaining about entropy? Things are always falling
apart, and it's up to us to be always putting them back together.
