While my campaign to get a second edition might be for nought, does
Harlequinn have the right to change the currents programs character
stats? When Bill and Pete (of GSI) developed this game the basis for
starting character and their abilities was from ICE MERP. Over the
years as I have played the PBM, I have also collected a large amount
of the Ice product. When the character range is look at the whole,
there clearly is a relation between MERP levels and character PBM stat
points. The formula is as follows:
Merp Level PBM Skill Points
Level 1-12 30 skill points (The obvious minimum)
Level 13-16 40 skill points
Level 17-20 50 skill points
Level 21-24 60 skill points
Level 25-28 70 skill points
Level 29-32 80 skill points
Level 33-36 90 skill points
Level 37-40 100 skill points
Level 50 130 skill points
Level 60 150 skill points
Level 65 170 skill points
The only reason that the last 3 number have no range is that only 6
characters ar in this range Urzahil, Khamul, and Glorfindel are level
50s and have 130 points. Murazon and Cirdan are level 60 and have 150
skill points. Elrond has 65 levels and 170 skill points. While all of
the other 7 nazgul have 100 skill points, this was not always the
case. Way back in the early days of GSI Uvatha was a 60,10,10,0
Adunaphel a 20,20,0,40 Ren was a 20,10,50 Hormurath was a 30,10,50,
and Akorahil was a 20,10,60. These levels changed in the double digit
numbers of 1650 from GSI to further reflect the power of the Nazgul.
Getting back to my original point, GSI here and there have some of the
numbers wrong. The biggest area that GSI was off was the Eothraim
characters. The riders of rohan module clearly sad x and GSI ignored
them. Some of the levels listed wrong are not GSI's fault. It might be
ICE's fault as that the same character such as Angulion was listed as
level 35 in the excellant Gorgoroth Moduule yielding 90 points (which
he is). In the reprint of 2nd Angmar, he is listed as either level 32
or 40. Two different levels in the same book !!! If proof could be
given to make changes, can Harlequinn change those character stat and
could a few of the exisitng character slots be change and a new
character put in its place. If any of you poor northmen are wondering
where Din Ohtar came from, it is from a module Perils on the Sea of
Rhun. It is a well done module but written by Bill Feilds of GSI fame.
The bane of the Northmen is care of Bill twisted game background. I
will post the proposed changes in a second posting, to save on reading
time. The list is not that exhausting.
