Hurrah! 4 years after the question resurfaced and 6 years after the
discussion first aired, I have again found the original MEPBM
portraits as produced by Amelia James. Any of you who weren't around
to see them 6 years ago are urged to take a look and be amazed what
the character portraits looked like before GSI put them through their
low resolution photocopiers.

Here you go:
http://amelialjames .com/

BTW the other artist credited, and whose signature appears on many of
the rulebook illustrations is Elizabeth Danforth. See some of her
work at:
http://www.oakheart .com/
She's a ceramic artist too, so is a person "after my own heart".

In case anyone is wandering what the original question/suggestion
was, 6 years ago, it was... Now that we have electronic turn sheets
instead of 1980's dot matrix printers, wouldn't it be great to
reinstate the original non-degraded portraits on the turnsheets?

_Surely_ it would not be too difficult?

Hello all,

Amelia here.
: )

Back in 2004 there was a discussion about coloring the old drawings,
but there was some misunderstanding about cost and I was working on
some other projects so nothing came of it. I had assumed that you guys
were getting people to draw new drawings.

I'm always surprised that this game is still going on : ) and you are
still using those horrible scans that GSI did.

Laurence, thanks for unearthing my site. It's obviously an old site
just parked in a new place. If you are interested here are some links
for things that I had put together in 2004. I haven't done anything
with them since.....

http://www.amelialjames.com/upload/Carlon_haradrim_color.jpg

http://www.amelialjames.com/upload/gen_elf_fem450color.jpg

here is a comparison of the old GSI scans to the actual drawings with
a colored version too ;

http://www.amelialjames.com/upload/urdrek/Urdrek_gsi.jpg

http://www.amelialjames.com/upload/urdrek/urdrek_dun_150_grey.jpg

http://www.amelialjames.com/upload/urdrek/urdrek_dun_150_color.jpg

right now these are just dumped on my site, from the last time we
changed our server. I will try to put together an index page for them
this weekend and add some other scans.

The original drawings are not in great shape. They have been through
fire and flood and are approaching 20 years of age. I wish it was as
simple as just scanning them in, but each one needs to be cleaned up
digitally. That's why I was excited about the coloring project.. it
would give me a chance to clean up the old drawings.

Glad to see the drawings were of some use to you Clint.

and it's nice to know you guys are still playing : )
have fun!

Excellent. Thanks for that. Your work has a special significance for we MEPBM old-timers, as the portraits are like old friends. It's fantastic to see them in their true glory, and if Clint ever gets this new version of the game actually out there  , I look forward to seeing them more often. I'm pleased you're still around Amelia, after a long long web search this morning I was beginning to think that you'd sailed west out of the Grey Havens

At present we can't afford to have the portraits coloured in but it's something for the future.
