Colour Maps

A 70k ish file is now 194k. The colour is really a costly frill in my books.

I totally agree with you. I must use a normal telephone line and this
triples my costs without any useful addition.

I much prefer it over b/w. It's clearer.

Dunno what phone calls cost in Germany, but here in Norway (Europe's
most expensive country), the 20 seconds extra to download the new
size of the PDF files on a 56kbit phone line would amount to 0.0075
Euro more per turn in phonecalls.

I dont think its really the cost, its the time on a 56k modem, can you not
use a lower bit depth Oystein?

I should also mention that the filesize is being worked on, and
should become smaller.

Hi,
you can expect to get 10-15 PDF-Files and it this not only takes a
couple of additional minutes, you can expect that our much loved major
carrier (and the only one you can use if you are not leaving in a city)
will be unable to send everything in one connection. This leads to a
couple of additional dial-in attempts (most of them no success, but you
will have to pay even for those) and you do not end up with 0.0075 EUR
but more likely between 0.5 and 1 EUR per Turn. So you pay about 10 EUR
per game for nothing.

10-15 files? Must be in alot of games. Even so, you'd usually not
get all of those at once in one day. (UNless you're playing a full
side solo, which I know some people have done).

Anyways, the file-size has been reduced. I just sent a new version
to MeGames which changes the color PDFs from 145-178kb per turn, to
90-126kb per turn for an mid-early 2950 game.

Um...don't you and your teammates share pdfs...?

I love the new maps (though mine seem to be in "color",
not "colour"). I was never able to clearly see pop centers in the
B&W map unless it was zoomed to > 150%. Now, thanks to the color
difference, I can see them even at 50%. Great improvement. Thanks.
