Even in No Drop games, players can Special Service. In fact, they can Special Service for many turns in a row. Well now, who’s winning here? Supposedly, we have people, experienced vet’s only, playing at a higher level and higher level of integrity, but this loophole actually allows a proxy-drop at no cost to the player - only everyone else in the game…
So I propose the company offer, instead, something called a Committed Game (CG if you need… ;)) No Drop, No Special Service. All turns will be charged to your account. You agree to this stipulation upon sign up for the game. Any Drop or self-induced suicides results in you being disallowed from these Veteran Only games in the future.
How do you define experienced players of integrity? I’ve been SS twice in the past 3 yrs covering 20 games and both times felt terrible about it. I’ve also dropped a couple games for a variety of reasons that you yourself may be aware. I’m not flippant in my actions as I don’t like to disappoint my fellow gamers on either side, but I’ve been playing long enough now that I kind of get tired of dealing with stubborn personalities, by that I mean the ones that don’t like to be challenged, they just want to dictate.
Your premise is solid and I like it. I’m all for it!! But the key word you’ve chosen is “supposedly”. There are some players with years of experience that do not make good team players. But they are good players that want to be on a team of Allstars so to speak. I don’t care what you call a game, I only ask for a good game. And that means communication, which leads to chemistry, which generally equates to success. Lacking this trail leads to SS and drops and from what I’ve read in the past, it does not matter if its a No-Drop or Indy, or grudge, guys get pissed and they quit. Money is no issue. But I like your premise.
I’d be interested to see if there is an answer to this most perplexing of problems. Any system is subjective and is just crying out for the player who will soar like an eagle in the face of all rules, adversity and reason, and crap on the beaming little faces looking up at him
Sometimes player differences are just too great. On those occasions you need to calmly sit down with the players involved, offer them a big ‘man hug’ and generally try to crush the life out of them
‘Man hug’ is the correct spelling btw if you want to put it in your new rule set. I can provide an accurate dictionary description, and drawings if you require. I can also do ‘girl hug’, similar concept, but the drawings are far more exciting
Hey Dan, I was coming from a Gunboat perspective, but I can see it applied to Indies as well. Certainly not Grudge games, those are the responsibility of the team and Captains, perse.
The whole point is the extra motivation. “Veteran”, “No Drop”, and “Committed” may attract those gamers looking for a better game. And those players who are willing to take responsibility for their game and their part in MY game - and hoping that I’m willing to take responsibility for my part in THEIR game. And if you SS, you pay for it. So don’t. Can’t be simpler. If you don’t like the odds, don’t play. I don’t care how you “feel” or “why”, what perfectly good reasons that there might be. You play? You pay. So play.
We’ve got No drop GB games already. they’re reasonably good at getting committed players I’ve found. Not perfect, and I don’t think a financial penalty will cause those players who would play a no-drop GB game to commit any more to this format.
I don’t have a problem with this if the players agree before hand – but what if something life changing happens – like losing one job and while 6 months ago I did commit to it, things in my life have changed big time and thus might have to cut back on the number of games I am in (can’t see myself not ever being in at least one game). Should this person still be penalizied.
So, while yes , if I did sign up for a No-Drop game, I would not ever plan or have intentions on dropping the game, but you can never tell what the future holds for any player a couple weeks or even months down the road.
Well if a player did drop a no-drop game you wouldn’t be allowed to play any new ones… I would consider extenuating circumstances of course, have done so in the past for example, but “too busy to put turns in” are not - "wife ran off with the dog, might count… "
Is there, or are there support for a no-drop GB game at present?
If the one week game fills, I’ll not be signing up for another GB yet, but if the one-week game does not fill even with the potential of two nations per player, then, I will withdraw my signup for 1 week and I would be up for another no-drop GB.
I’d be willing to play any variant of no-drop or committed GBs. Four nations would be cool, as I’d be splitting them with Tim. three nations good also.
I’ve been thinking about the Gunboat pairings for two nations could use a tweak…as the DS have been beaten the last three no drops pretty soundly…
My suggested tweaks would be to pair Rhudaur with the Long Rider, Cloud Lord back with Fire King (protect Mordor), WK & Drk Ltnts, Corsairs and Dragon (no other pairing with Dragon would work), IK and BS, QA with Dog Lord.
