If you have two companies of different nations under commanders from
different nations, they are friendly toward each other, and you want
to combine them, you can't use tranfer command. My question is, can
the chars in one of the companies AND the company commander simply
join the other com, or does the company commander have to disband the
company first?
If the number of characters in a company ever drops to one it is
automatically dissolved. So...you can have everyone but the
commanders of the second company join the first company. I don't
think that you can have the commander of #2 join in the same turn.

You can have the commander join the team if he issues both a disband
and then a join for the other commander in the same turn Marc.
Haven't tried it without the disbanding though - so I'm not much help
for Pontus I guess...

Yes, I'll probably have to move the commander individually and join
next turn, but has anyone actually tried to join the same turn?
Nothing in the rulebook says a commander can't join a company, but I
know an army com can't because the army would then dissolve, but does
the same apply to company commanders?

Yes, but the thing is, I need the second order badly... Has anyone
tried without disbanding?

It is not automatically dissolved right away, however.
If everyone leaves the company, the company commander
still has to issue an 820 order to move, even though
it will then be a company of just one (the CC). OR,
he can issue an 870 order... the company dissolves
between the 820 and 870 orders.

Actually, if everyone leaves the company before the commander moves, then he can move
with 810. Trouble is, who moves when is random (amongst all 810 orders), so more than
likely the commander will be stuck, and will get the "He was not able to move because
he commands an army/navy or company" message, (followed immediately by a "company has
been disbanded because of minimum size requirements" message).
This actually happened to a teammate last turn. He had two company commanders issue
810 orders, along with all the characters of their companies. One commander DID move,
and the other didn't, (with the messages listed above).
Note that you CAN move the company commander with an 870 order (whether you actually
join an army or not) as long as everyone else in the company uses the 810 order. That
way you're assured of the company being disbanded before the commander tries to move
on his own.
Note also that if you try the 820 order, it won't work, (assuming everyone else in the
company left using 810), because the company will be disbanded by the time 820 is
issued.

I'm fairly certain you're incorrect. Hypothetical
situation:
Company with the CC and one character. Assassins take
out the character with 615 orders. Therefore
according to your line of reasoning, the CC would have
to issue an 810 order to move since his company would
disband after the 615 order.
I'm about 90% certain that he CC would have to move
with the 820 order, NOT the 810. As I mentioned
previously, I think the disbanding from size
requirements occurs after the 820 order, but before
870.
Does anyone have concrete evidence, one way or
another?

As I stated, it just happened in a game I'm in where 2 CCs were issued 810 move
orders, (with all the company members issuing 810 move orders), and this resulted in
one of the CCs moving, and the other NOT moving due to being a CC. If the company is
disbanded AFTER the 820 order, then how did the one CC get to move, and the other not?
The orders were all written correctly, and no other factors, (agent actions,
challenges, etc.) influenced the size of the companies. This clearly shows that a
company was disbanded DURING the processing of 810 orders. I'm 100% sure of that...
Since it just happened.
