It would make an excellent wargame. No elves, dwarves or goblins, but

On that point anyone seen any Dune RPG or similar sources? I want to run a
RPG campaign based on it at some point. (Just saw the Dune miniseries).

Yep - acting was worse in my opinion! Everything else pretty much better -
it's on my Christmas list! 
I agree - it's something I would love to
design as a PBM Dune game - one of our friends has the rights to Where's
Lies the Power which was a Dune variant which worked well as a hand-mod.
Back to the RPG - like the W40K RPG I think you can do it just needs a
certain perspective. Sam recently ran a reasonably successful political
campaign which I thought not possible to do so that gives me hope.

I agree the acting in the Mini-series was horrible and I hate the way
they basically ignored the soliloques also. I think the way the
director handled the inter struggle within Paul was much better and
closer to the book in the movie than the series, but the movie was a
little whacked as far as the Weirding way was concerned.
