Days of Yore

Hi guys

I was reminiscing about the good old days - when Middle Earth PBM was new in the UK - were any of you chaps around way back then? Although still at school (yeah right) I was in one of the very first games in this country - playing the Noldo as it happened. I recall bumping into an NPC in my turn - Daeron - and a couple of days later I had a phone call from a chap saying he was controlling the Daeron character.

He told me that experienced players had agreed to control NPC's in the game so as to facilitate us newbies in learning the ropes. Anyone else remember that? Was it true even?

As it was I didn't stick with the game anyway. Had been used to hand moderated games, which were common in the UK then (World of Vengeance anyone?), and the game wasn't as Tolkienesque as I'd have liked. Probably still isn't but its still a damn good game - have I tempered with age?!

Cheers

Matthew

I was playing around '95 on the other side of the Atlantic. I started
thinking about playing again a few weeks ago and did a little digging to
find out MEPBM is still kicking and here I am.

He was pulling your chain, most like.

So, my question to everyone here is: How has MEPBM aged in the six years
since I've played? I'm getting the impression that it's pretty much the
same game now as then. Wasn't GSI going to alter initial startups for each
game enough to mitigate the advantage of having all the startup data?
Are the same folks still around playing with six years of experience under
their belt or do folks play for a while and move on, leaving the field to a
new set of folks?

And is anyone putting together teams for a grudge match?

thanks,

Well there are lots of changes and it's still the same game. Ie 1650, 2950,
1000 are the three standard scenarios out there but we occasionally run
variants of the above. 1000 might be the thing you are looking for - it's a
design your own scenario game. 1000 is presently taking set-ups for a NKA
game (No Kidnap or Assassination allowed). Other than feel free to get in
touch and I should be able to help.

There are often slots available in teams.
