Dead Men Cost Money ?!?

So it's agreed that "maintenance" is paid in the 300's. Somewhere, excepting the odd troop
problem of recruiting in the 400's or 770, and dying in the 200's. Only fair that the armies
you begin the turn with you pay for.

Now, exactly where the maintenance comes in would be interesting. Do you pay maintenance
on ships you just gave away, or does the recipient? Anyone ever pull that order with such
stringent economic ombudsmen that they noticed? What about conjuring hoards? Do you pay
for that or is that equivalent to recruiting? I would assume that you pay for the hoards, and
your buddy pays for the ships you gave him, as maintenance would be the final 300 series
transaction recorded by the program before 400?

Ah, these things that keep us from getting to those meetings on time....

Brad Brunet

Yup. The maintenance is fixed at the start of the turn.
You can lose income through the 200 series, but not gain it (nothing
from captured pop centers.)
At the 300 order you change tax rates, and they are collected
immediately after. You therefore have your taxes to buy stuff.
Then you buy things from the market.
Then you sell things to the market.
Then you pay the piper!

cheers,

Marc

Is there a formula for how much gold to use to recruit characters from a
defunct nation? What is the lowest amount that can be given to recruit
them?

Thanks

yes (i think). How accurate it is is another question.

I don't have the link here, but i think laurence has
it on his site.

One of these days someone will have a link to all the
players with middle earth info on it (not just the
main ones). I think b.e came closest in a deft letter,
but deft is down, and b.e middle earth site doesn't
have that info.

them?

You can give bugger all, but that doesn't mean you
will succeed.

But the better your emissary, the lower the amount you
need.

Basically if I don't have 15K for the order, I don't
bother. I reckon 5k for a 30 pointer, 10K for a dual,
so its 15K+ for the superman that i'm taking over.

The Emmy rank is CRUCIAL. Heavy hitters like Galadriel or Saruman can
recruit anything on the freaking map with about 5k gold (2950). Also,
Pectoral and Voice are Emmy artifacts which help tremendously.
Remember, though, you can't recruit army commanders. Have to KIDNAP them
FIRST, then recruit

It was on laurence's site ....

http://www.lgtilley.freeserve.co.uk/me.htm

And it says

How much do I need to pay in order to bribe/recruit a
character?

Use the magic formula:

% chance = amount/200 + (1/2) * emissary rank - (1/2)
* bribed char rank

I always work this one out to 100% and it has never
failed me. I've now simplified the formula:

Assuming you want the 100% chance then

100 ( 200 - e + r ) = b

where e is emissary rank, r is the other character's
rank and b is the amount of bribe you need to offer.

.......

Like i said, this calculation is said to be over
generous. But since its a emissary order i'm using,
and there is a deadline for picking up the inactive
people, I don't see that as a problem.

Since I just want the order to work, i'm prepared to
pay my money and get the person.

thanks for that laurence
