All,
Winn makes very good point here regarding the cost of playing.
I have seen different scales of turns fees applied successfully within
games, e.g. Austerlitz, the Napoleonic wargame, where if you play, say,
Italy, you're charged a lot less per turn than, say, France.
I think it should be adopted in ME1650, with the exception of complete
newbies to the game - they should still be charged the current prices.
As Facade stated in a previous letter, the DS are also chosen by many
experienced players, simply because they're easier to win with. Perhaps DS
positions should be charged at slightly more for experienced players. This
may discourage a few from playing DS and choosing Free, balancing the game
further.
Just my opinion.
Shaun.
P.S. I apologise for the abuse I give to the humble comma!

Very good point. making minor adjustments until balance is restored seems
to
be the best way to go. My only thought would be, rather than simply
weakening dragon encounters, why not strengthen the free nations which
consistantly come out last, and which are hardest to fill. I.E. When the DS
win 66% of the games, start giving bonuses to the WOODMEN. Extra start
gold,
slightly improved character ranks, that sort of thing. For that matter, I
think some adjustments would even be beneficial between nations on the same
side. Who contributes more to free, Noldo or Woodmen? Which Neutral is
better, Corsairs or Rhudaur? Whenever Noldo is first and Woodmen are last,
drop some elf a few points in stealth and give them to their inferior
teammate. I think the only other really fair solution would be to change
price structure so that the powerhouses might cost a pound a turn more and
the loser nations cost less.Winn
I think this has a lot to do with experienced players recognizing which
side
has the most versatility and options. We can make hypotheses all day about
why the DS win 2 out of 3, but it doesn't change the fact that they're
winning 2 out of 3. I would begin with minor changes over time until the
end
statistics begin coming out more even. I'd personally like to see the
dragon
encounters randomized to add an element of risk in recruiting them,
however
it doesn't really matter what you change as long as it works toward a more
evenly matched game._________________________________________________________________
