This is off Bobbin's site. Anyone with a
confirmation?

And Kevin: this is confusing, is Ainulindale THE
answer and you're just offering possible multiple
correct answers, or it's either or?

Many thanks,

Brad

ok, i'm a bit late but since I didn't read another
reply I'll give this a go

...

I would have felt that it was an elven language (and
one of the first ones)

> Developed to be a bearer of sound.

elves were big into songs/singing

> It yet won acceptance for centuries around.

the others were too lazy/stupid to make up their own
langauage, so they used what the elves were using.

> From Elf to Man and even to Dwarven kind.

the dwarves had their own language, but they didn't
teach it to many others. So they used the existing
elven one. and I think the elves taught the humans the
elven language when they met.

I think the elves first meet the humans, and then the
dwarves ???

and while the human language come into play much
later, I strongly doubt that the elves would speak it.

> It kept all together and in knowledge did bind

a common language is a pretty useful binding agent
among cultures.

The problem is 'which language ?' there were a few,
and without access to my books (they are in another
cold/cold room, and i'm snug to move) I can't be of
more help.

The noldor made up a language, but it was forbidden to
be used in middle earth (something to do with the
noldor killing a few elves in the undying lands). So
the noldor used the language of the common elves - I
would go for this as the answer, but I can't think of
what it was called.

sorry
