Digest Number 1514

We're off to see Return of the King on Thursday afternoon so turns might be a little delayed that day...

Clint

Clint, thanks for trying to fwd the new version to my
hotmail account, but apparently that didn't work,
either.

I'd really like to take a look at it -- I've worked as
an editor for years and enjoy making a clear
introduction for newcomers.

What do you think of the idea of making a Yahoo group
and uploading it? I bet I can download something of
that size -- it's just the mail programs that won't
allow it.

It's an option that we could do this for a 1650 game where the nations are
aligned at game start. We'd probably try it without the extra charge that
normally we charge for this. Would there be enough players
interested? 12v12 no Easterlings fort on 4217 and 1910 as per the normal
WC rules.

Cor & Dun FP
Har & Rhud DS

I'd be happy to put in the +10 to any stat (no stealth, nor any stat raised
above 40, if Mage then no extra spell) as a tester.

curious. In spain the most common and interesting setting is what we
call "legend games". They are 1650 games with neutrals alligned
(harad and dunland are FP, corsair and rhudaur are DS, easterling
doesnt play. People seems to like it very much.

However, in the "legends" games there are also some different cases:

there are 12 extra camps hidden, 6 for each side. there are one 500
HC, 500 LC and 500 HI bonuses to three random countries of FP and
three random countries of DS. Each country gets a +40 or two +20
bonus to their lowest nation stat (ie: emmisair for Cloud lord, agent
for Arthedain, and so on). Plus we have "extra" nation missions that
also give huge bonuses to people. They include things like: if your
nation (my case, arthedain) gets Gurthang and gives it to Celeborn,
the character doing it gets +40 to mage rank. Or "if your nation -
also arthedain- kills Gaurhir in challenge or by assasination, the
character doing so gets +40 in agent". They are allways hard to
acomplish -ie, no assasination mission for the cloud lord- and the
benefits are also very strong, so the game is not that "fixed" as
1650 and 2950 games are, but are not so unexpecting as 4th age games
are. They are very succesful here, maybe you would like to try
something similar... although tastes seems to be different. Here the
2950 setting is very unpopular, for example.

WHOOAH there Clint! A bit premature aren't you? It hasn't been up for a week, and some of your 'normal' games take months to fill. Give it a chance!

Please put it on the FS for at least one week!

  RD: Hey Gustavo,

That sounds like a whole lotta fun! I do like some of those ideas.

Harle do run variant games with some (player-suggested) changes like you suggest, but they charge a higher setup fee for the extra work. So I can't resist asking, does your GM charge extra for such 'Legends' games?

I hope your message arouses increased interest in variant games over here (especially my War of the Ring variant)!

Well, you didn't seriously think I would talk about variants without plugging my own baby, did you

No. But i guess that making people more interested in games( and thus
`playing more) makes enough profit for them.

I forget an aditional thing: Randomly, Marauderes armies of
easterling appear in the game. (around 10-15% chance per turn, i
guess from my experience, but no proof on that). This armies are made
by 500 HC steel steel with high morale and training. They enter by a
random hex in any of the borders (including sea ) and have a random
hex as destination. They make 255 and 860 orders, burning everything
they find until they reach its destination (or are stopped).

Which are your War of the Ring variant of the game??

Sounds very similar to my experience at Chistmas, but for "Easterlings"
substitute "In-laws".
