I am new here and I signed up for the newbie Five Armies game to learn things. I got my game manual in the mail. I have sent 3 emails over the last 3 weeks and the last one included my account number with a few simple questions and I have not gotten a single response.
They were not long emails. They were not rude. I have an account number. Before I got my information in the mail, I wanted to verify that they received payment. since I got the game manual they have.
I then asked how many of the 5 positions in the five armies game has been filled. No response in 3 weeks.
Yes they usually answer the e-mails – all the e-mails i ever sent them have gotten answered – They could be looking for some experianced gamers to play with you in that battle of the 5 armies if that is to be your first game – it is usually a very fast pace and military game – most new players try a 1650 version first to get a hand on things !! Any way’s welcome to ME and if you put any questions you have on here – you will always fine others like myself willing to throw there two cents your way !!
I have another question. I noticed that a weekly 1650 game is filling up quick. How big of a stretch is it to jump into a regular game ? I have played other PBMs years ago and I found that as soon as you tell someone you are new, they all gang up on you. Rather like vultures.
I have played w/ several brand-spanking new guys…they like the 1650 b/c it is somewhat like chess at this point…there are always experienced guys in it that have the knowledge and want-to to each others…it’s like chess b/c in some respects it is generally accepted that certain things must happen early one for the free and dark…
w/o getting into specifics I think 1650 is fine to break in w/. My nephew is in his 2nd game in 1650 and loves it…he played Northmen the first game (free people out east) and got pounded by about 5 nations of cavalry…lol…but survived and enjoyed the game…now he’s the Ice King in gm 81 and loving it even more…signed up for another game…against mom’s wishes I think…gawd we’re infecting the family…there are 3 of us brothers who play and now Jake, and hopefully my dad…who’s nearly 70 is interested too…muwahahahah…
sorry,
Anyway I’d say if you have never played before you should take a nation that isn’t in danger of bankrupting right away that is decent w/ characters and so forth…
so perhaps South Gondor (navy though, ugh), Arthedain, Dwarves even though they are pretty spread out…if you play the dark servents I’d say anyone but the dk lts or dragon lord…dk lts have a terrible economy after about 3 turns and the dragon lord gets pounded by freeps (but it’s still my favorite position)…finally there are the neutrals…but it’s hard to learn from there…so I’d say play a bit first then go neutral to see the other side of things…
All depends on how fast people sign up for games mainly , I really don’t think you have to worry about anyone ganging up on you – not that it cant happen – but if you join a game on either the freep side or evil side if your teammates want to try and win and have a good game – they will communicate with you and try and help you out , or they stand a good chance of all going under !! Am in a game with a couple of so called newbies and usually give them pointers and tips and discuss strategy and tell them to ask questions about anything – exspecialy if they don’t understand any tip or suggestion I gave them , but I don’t run there turns for them or tell them what to do , just remember the postion you are playing might be the lynch pin that could cause a whole side to go under if your allies don’t help you !!
So I am sure you will find your allies more then willing to help you out in any game – know I would and most others that post here would also !!
JZ is right about those nation , but another one I say stay away from till get the game mechanics under your belt is the Witch King – you are gonna get hit hard and fast by the Arthedain and cardolan who have better troops and this nation has to open communications with Rhudaur a neutral who is right next to him and can decide to jump on the WK for easy pickings !!
I did 5 armies first time I played, and personally I think it’s a nifty introduction for a new player. Getting your head around the intricacies of orders and army movement is something that 5 armies really does help you with.

Hi, sorry I don’t know who you are, (I assume you are Ryan?) but yes we reply usually within the hour, but failing that within one day. I guess that we are not getting through to your email account (it might be some sort of filter at your end possibly?)
I would not recommend you get into a game until you’ve tried Bofa. Bofa is set up to help out new players, with a player mentor assigned to help you and also takes you through the orders so that you don’t have quite as much a learning curve.
I checked with Rob and he says that the “dispatch” one works but not the “me” one. Is that correct? Hope that’s all you need and if you’ve replied then we should be able to get you into a game very shortly. Just need you to send us the choices and the game is ready to go (we have the mentors ready).
