Do YOU love the 2950 scenario TOO ?!?

Not that I know if I do, because I have not tried yet. But I would love to get started, so why don’t YOU sign up for game 230 too ?!?!

OK done

Jeppe,
I’ll sign-up for the 2950 game if you continue to agitate for another Gunboat game. (In fact, I’d love to play a 2950 Gunboat game!!)

Convince two friends or comrades to tell Clint they want to get into the next Gunboat game (we only need 12 players because each player gets two nations – Easterlings are not played). Before you know it, we’ll have another roaring, wild Gunboat game going.

Clint emailed me today saying there would not be a 2950 Gunboat game in the “near to mid future.” I had asked about playing in one too but unfortunately variants must not be cost effective or something. Personally I don’t understand why they would not run a game if people showed some interest. Other than altering KE and relations, I don’t understand what difference there is (starting turn 1) unless they are checking every turn for hostile orders against allies or unknowns, which I doubt. I thought after turn 0 it was up to the honor of the players to adhere to gunboat protocol hence I don’t see any additional “work” after turn 0. Of course, I know absolutely nothing about their procedures.

Clint will indeed run a Gunboat game if there is sufficient demand. He does not like to have too many “variant” games filling simultaneously. I’m not sure why. But in any case, Clint told me that if there is enough demand (i.e., players really willing to sign up – not just saying they’re “interested”), then he will offer the game.

So . . . tell Clint you want to get into the next available Gunboat game – or better yet: SIGN UP for the next available Gunboat game.

I don’t see the need for the rest. Supply and Demand. This isn’t their first day on the job. I’ve been signed up for games that, when they finally filled, I’d forgotten about it and had to drop due to other committments…happens often enough that it harms their customer base. Very simple:

Create the demand and they’ll gladly provide the supply. They’ve already tried providing the supply to weak demand, which pleases nobody.

Celebion:
Lastly, would you be opposed to me starting a thread to see how much if any interest there is in starting a new one? I would think if I posted on the boards and 6 people showed interest, it would be worth your while to list it as a game filling. Of course I know nothing of your business practices.

*** At present I don’t want to start one as we just filled game 229 and only want to support one Variant game at a time.

Clint ****

I took that to mean that even trying to determine if there is any interest was discouraged. If you don’t play 1650 you will wait 2 months anyway. I am not going debate whether this or that hurts the “player base”. Everyone has an opinion some are worthwhile and some are worthless.

I have signed up for a 1650 gunboat game  (and would also like to try a 2950 variant in the future). But as Nimdraug and others has posted, IF some of you out there are interested in the Gunboat game, please contact Clint and sign up (or reconfirm your signup if it has been a while since you signed up)

Clint told me in an email that he will respond to player “demand”; but that at present all he has for the Gunboat variant is player “interest.” I read that to mean that if 12 players actually sign-up for a Gunboat game – as opposed to simply expressing an interest – then it will be offered.

Clint’s concern, as I understand it, is that too many “variant” offerings water down the ability of ME Games to fill games in a timely manner, thus frustrating the players of the standard games who must wait longer for games to fill.

But if 12 players all signed up at once for a Gunboat game (or any other “variant,” for that matter), I cannot see why ME Games would not run it. Yet Clint’s response to Celebion seems to indicate that there is “some” reason even if that reason must remain a mystery to the players.

Still and all, I don’t see why we can’t begin to collect names of players who would like to play a Gunboat game. How could that hurt ME Games or anyone else? We would manage the list and when we had 12 committed players, we could send sign-ups all at once to ME Games.

I would be honored to place my name on a List of “Players Who Want To Participate In The Next Gunboat Game” along with any others who have a desire to try what I believe to be a thrilling and brilliantly-conceived ME PBM variant. Celebion and Jeppe, I will start a new thread soliciting names of tjose who are anxious to play a Gunboat game and don’t want to wait until 299 ends. I hope you guys join me in committing to the next Gunboat game.

Best to contact me directly if you want to join a game - that’s what I am here for. I don’t have your name so I don’t know who you are so can’t keep you in mind should I get a game going. Who are you please?

I would certainly run a GB game if there were 12 interested. One reason for keeping a pool of players who are interested in a game is that GB suffers from some drop outs which can be detrimental. So I need players to pick up those nations but at present I have 1 actual player for 2950 GB. That’s ONE signed up - so I can’t start a list with that many.

Getting too many variant games has a tendency for players to sign up for too many (“eyes bigger than their bellies”) and then drop out.

You are more than welcome to find out if there is a player base (ie players interested) in a 2950 GB game. My apologies if I gave you the wrong impression that I would not run a game - the hard numbers say otherwise. This exact discussion came up recently with 1650 GB. I even had a “poll” say that there 14 players (or so) interested in playing. When it came to actually putting their names down though I got 3… Hence I am wary about players saying that they are interested and no commitment.

Clint

Note - when I get the 1wk 1650 game filled I will be particularly interested in starting up another Variant game. I think it’s the future of ME for many players. Having just filled 3 GB games (and dealt with the drop outs from them all) I think it’s unlikely tobe able to get another such game ready in the near to mid -future. Happy to be proved wrong…

As long as I still enjoy playing MEPBM, I will play in most every 2950 GB that is offered. It is by far, my preferred game of choice since it can be so variable. Feel free to add me to the new thread Nimdraug; I am a definite yes for a 2950 GB.

As you mentioned, perhaps it would be better if those interested took the initiative to find 12 like-minded people and then we all submit at the same time. This could eliminate someone signing up some weeks back then losing interest when it came time to pay. This could also possibly help establish a core group of players that prefer this type of variant and thus would be less likely to drop (which is very bad for all concerned)

My advice - don’t do that - let me do that. You’ll find that I have a lot more resources to speed this sort of thing up and to deal with any problems that might occur. If you get in touch with me and tell me I can sort it out. I always check with players if the game has waited for a length of time.

Celebion, I’m with you! 2950 Gunboat it is!

How about you, Jeppe?

I have emailed tonight authorizing payment, if one does come about.

Hey, Gunboat fans, I just sent an email to Clint giving my account number and directing him to include me in the next 2950 Gunboat game.

I’m in a 1650 Gunboat game right now and I’m enjoying it immensely. I bet the 2950 Gunboat game will be even more intense and fun! :stuck_out_tongue: Can’t wait to get started!

Sorry to disappoint you guys, but since I haven’t tried the 2950 scenario yet, I am not interested in joining a 2950 GB yet. I have signed up for a 1650 GB though.

PS. I am really sorry, I know how annoying it can be when you want to start up a game and people then say no. But just to clarify, I never did rally for a 2950 GB game, just for a 2950 game.
