DS Differences

I've never played in 2950, but want to. I've looked over the starting info on Stormy's
web site, and have printed myself a starting map. One observation, please correct me
if I'm wrong:

Everywhere outside of Mordor is a virtual wasteland compared to 1650. The Mordor DS
have not been anywhere near as significantly reduced.

I know that the non Mordor DS HAVE been reduced, but.....would the starting "power"
in 2950 not be skewed a little more towards the DS than 1650?

Thanks,

Brad G Brunet

The free trade a lot of population centers for much better characters
and a healthy supply of artifacts (especially agent artifacts.) The
secret free weapon is emissaries. A good free team can place far more
camps than a dark team, and because of the smaller population center
base this has a big impact. Not doing this is the biggest free
problem. In effect, you have to build your better economies instead
of starting with them.

The only starting army that matters is the Long Rider; he can make
life miserable for the Northmen. It is true that the free are
frequently on the military defensive in Lorien/Gap of Rohan if the
Rohan and Sinda players are not competent. This is unfortunately
typical, especially for Rohan. On the flip side, decent Mirkwood free
play can ensure that the north is cleared of dark servant bases within
the first 10 turns. North Gondor is a sorry position, usually left to
some unwitting new player. All of the disadvantages of the 1650 N
Gondor without the massive economic base; the best finish I've seen
for NG is #8. The Woodmen and Northmen do better, by a lot.
Beefing up the NG starting population base would go a long way
towards making the position attractive to strong players and
helping the free out. South Gondor is very powerful (lots of good
emissaries and resources.)

Emissaries are used much more, and they are typically how the free
take Dol Guldur, Mt. Gundabad, etc. The agent war is very close to
even, with free artifact advantages and lore spells balanced against
dark special nation abilities. Bankruptcy is the #1 nation killer in
the early going.

greetings.

if you lot in England are getting worried about
foot-and-mouth disease, try not to read the CNN
bulletin board on it.

Post 141 ...
I've heard this argument before that people have the
moral obligation to spread this disease since it will
put the ranchers and farmers out of business. While I
think there is much merit to this argument and would
not discourage people from intentionally spreading it
(I would not participate since I am very uncomfortable
on farms) I would hope the government would then step
in to compensate these farmers and ranchers and
provide new industries for them to prosper within.

And post 146
Also since the actual disease seems not to be fatal to
the animals I would suggest they not be killed and the
farmers be compensated for taking care of them.

So far the USA appear to be very good in winning
grudge game (who could tell that M/E is a game where
skill/intelligence/planning and team-work is so
important).

I play m/e for enjoyment, and its hard to enjoy it
when I get outplayed by the better side. So I suggest
that if I was to play grudge with the USA, then I play
against these people.

Stupidity needs to be pointed out since other people
might think its a good idea to spread foot-and-mouth
(from the 'meat is bad' school), or keep the animals
alive (the 'killing is cruel' school).

Our aussie dollar went under 50 cents to the US
dollar, so I hope the rest of the world realise that
Australia isn't the only country with idiots like
Pauline.

question.

I want to pick some spells for my mages in a normal FA
game.

conjure food is before conjure mounts in the lost
spell list.

if I want to buy conjure mounts (how I love HC), do I
need to buy conjure food ?

thanks

No, read the paragraph explaining about "prerequisites". Then look
under the spell description to see what the prerequisites are for
conjure mounts. I expect you'll find it says "none".

Yes - and if you buy Weakness it does NOT give you access to Sickness and
Curses.
