Earthwood: Sea Kings

Yep, I played. Can’t remember much though or the nations…

Hi People…

Sorry I never played it, although I remember the name from old WD’s (When it was worth reading).
I started with KJC’s Trolls Bottom, then Quest and It’s a Crime.
Now I only play 1650 and DungeonWorld:D

Wow, “It’s a Crime”, I remember that one, LOL

Yeah me too…“The Moleskins”. I was a mob boss

I played this game quite a bit in the 80’s. I’d also like to find a rule book or old map.

The positions I remember were:
High Elven Warrior (started with centaurs)
Human Warrior (started with wildmen)
Barbarian Warrior
Necromancer (started with undead)
Wizard
Warlock (started with weremen)
Conjurer (started with Goblins)

Rangers (capital at Lindon)
Mammoth Men (capital at Tagus)
Giants
Dark Elves
Forest Elves
High Elves
Gnomes
Mountain Dwarves
Hill Dwarves
Halflings
5 Human races (can’t remember the names)

The game was extremely unbalanced, but still a lot of fun. My first ride I played the Giants, and got wiped out by the Barbarian Warrior right quick. My brother played the Dark Elves (strength 0.8) which started smack next to the Forest Elves (strength 2.7) who promptly gutted him. He was so chagrined he never played PBM again. Bill Field really was a shmuck the way he treated first time players…

There was a PC called “The Keep”, which if you sieged for six turns would grant you 12 wizards and 12 dragons, which basically made you a total ass kicker.

Every nation had 3 armies max, and 2 spies. Races all started with a home city, but player characters w/out. The early game involved a scramble to occupy nearby ruins, and recruit wandering NPC’s into your armies.

There was a the problem that only the player characters, not the races, could cause NPC’s to reproduce. So sooner or later one of the mages would end up with 100 dragons plus teleport, at which point the game was basically over.

The races were severely handicapped because they had to decide how much of their population in each PC would be garrisoned for defense, vs left to reproduce. So Player Characters pretty much won all the games.

It was very silly, but what can I say, I was 12.

Still, I’d love to find an old map, turn, or rulebook laying around.

As someone said above, there’s nothing like your first PBM.
