Encounter help?

Does anyone know the right answer to this encounter.
Does answer depend on your skills, character on the spot is just an Emmy :frowning:

XXXX was hastening to take cover from a sudden and unseasonal storm when he came across an overgrown (or
perhaps hidden!) path. Daring the unexpected opportunity as a welcome respite from the foul weather, he
followed the path, finding it to be both narrow and broken. After a brief but difficult trek, he was
relieved to enter the small, hidden cave found at the path’s end. To his surprise, the cave provided not
only shelter from the weather but also an interesting discovery. In the center of the cave was an oblong
block of dark stone, engulfed in a faint transparent blue light that covered the entire surface. Upon the
stone lay something that did not shine, but attracted his attention nonetheless. The cave seemed almost to
be calling him. He couldn’t tell what it was, and certainly the item there was a powerful artifact, he
thought, but how might one breach the possible protections?
attack PHYSICALLY to drive off any guardians

Being only an emissary I’d try answering WAIT or ALLEGIANCE.

Heh, sorry I missed this., might have warned against reacting at all. The pukel-man has killed many an unwary traveller – best idea is to ignore the encounter (auto-flee works fine), and I hear that doing a 900 0 or two can work to get the artifact. Or just do a camp or whatever and move on. Emissaries have no business messing with magic! But then again, the pukel-man has killed agents, mages and commanders too…

Cool.

As a reminder to players on the list, MEGames DOES have an encounter wiki you can check. It has a lot of old encounter stuff from an earlier site, some of which has been updated, but if you have an encounter, you should check there first to see what might be available. But in the case of the Pukel Guardian (introduced in 2950, and exists in 4th Age also) they don’t have an entry for Flee. It should be “escapes” because I have just ignored the encounter more than once and never had a problem. However I find it too cumbersome to arrange to be able to update the wiki myself… If it was easier and folks actually updated the encounter wiki on a regular basis, it would be more helpful.

to enter the small, hidden cave found at the
path’s end. To his surprise, the cave
provided not

                                                  only

shelter from the weather but also an
interesting discovery. In the center of the
cave was an oblong

                                                  block

of dark stone, engulfed in a faint
transparent blue light that covered the
entire surface. Upon the

                                                  stone

lay something that did not shine, but
attracted his attention nonetheless. The
cave seemed almost to

                                                  be

calling him. He couldn’t tell what it was,
and certainly the item there was a powerful
artifact, he

                                                  thought,

but how might one breach the possible
protections?

                                                  attack

PHYSICALLY to drive off any guardians

                                                  attack

MAGICALLY to dispel any wards

                                                  Creep

forward silently and REMOVE the item from
the stone block

                                                  Leap

forward and STEAL the item from the stone
block

                                                  WAIT

and see if the shimmering light goes out
