Mmm. According to the police, most crime goes unreported. I imagine I
should comment in more detail.
Hi - since taking over the game we have had a few queries and questions
about error rates and the like so I thought we would do a 2 week study to
find out what the case was.
Were the people inputting the turns aware that the 2 week study was
taking place? If they were, error rates will have been reduced
significantly - they always are in such short term studies when people
are aware of the study.
Here's the results:
7 errors asked to be corrected by players of which 4 were player error.
50% of players turns have at least one mistake which we correct before
hand.
Part of the reason must surely be that you have not established a
standard e-mail format. In most of my team games now, draft orders are
circulated for mutual checking. We eliminate some of the player errors
before they get to you. But what I notice, is that every chap seems to
use a totally different format! This cannot help.
For your information, this is the method which I use and prefer:
I use the Cut&Paste facility of Adobe Acrobat to paste the entire form
part of the turnsheet. I then delete the _____ lines (as I go) and put
the orders down in the relatively short, one line style which is used in
the "orders given" section. So my orders look like this:

And so on. This has the advantage of giving the location and the
classes of the characters. I miss off order type, but that's because
I'm confident that I know them by heart. Players whose bizarre formats
I see, often miss off location, classes and/or order code word, all of
which make it much less likely that I will be alerted to possible errors
(both actual, and ones which are errors in terms of desired tactical
outcomes). So I wish everyone would use exactly the same format...
trouble is, I would be reluctant to give up mine!
We processed some 28 games with around 20 players per game with say 15
characters per turn (average). So some 16,800 orders with 3 actual GM
error makes 1/50% (1 in 5000). (Big grin)
That's just over 0.5% of turnsheets then which contain an error. I'm
afraid it does not really match with experience. I'll start keeping my
own count - hey, tell the hamster who inputs my turns, and he'll have it
in mind every time he sees my name. Could be goodbye to errors in MY
turnsheets for ever!
