Hi,
Most programs are written by a team and then compiled. Compiling them means
that its hard for anyone else to read the code, for whatever reason.
Open source means that the 'source code' is freely available. This is not a
technique which big firms like because they fear that their competitiors
will use the best bits and they will lose revenue to people who copy it.
The Linux operating system is open source. Microsoft do not allow open
source.
So the concept I want to try with Mike's Excel sheets is that everyone who
is interested looks at the code and tries to improve it, or add to it.
Mike will coordinate it all.
Sam
