Gotta' agree here.
I don't want to start a "thing" with the people from Minneapolis, I'm sure
it's a great city and all.
However, the fact that their player base is vocal should not mean that a
relatively non-central location should be more or less autocratically
chosen. Yes, there are alot of other issues, but I don't think "ascencion
via volume" is the best, or even a particularly fair, way on which to
determine location.
To wit:
Several people have offered to help with the "hosting issues" in other
locations. Just because they have not confirmed specific details with Clint,
does not mean they can not do so. Further, it was not conveyed that such
confirmation was being sought, or that the "consideration" period of where to
host the game(s) had entered the point where such details might make a
difference.
Many other people have expressed a solid interest in participating. I'm
virtually certain that this group is larger, probably several times over,
than the group in Minneapolis. I also think that all Minneapolis residents
interested in this event have been "encouraged" by the "momentum" granted (if
not earned) by Clint throughout the process.
Clint, I am not trying to make things more difficult than they need to be. I
understand why you have reacted so positively to the "Minnesota contingent."
It only makes sense (from your point of view as the "moderator" and a
potential participant). However, you are making the first, and by far the
most important, decision regarding this event, based on what I believe to be
"secondary" issues.
The primary issue, IMHO, is exactly how many people have/will commit, and
where they are _all_ coming from. Without this information, made publicly
available so the _participants_ (who will, after all, be funding this
excursion) can understand why you've made the decision you've made, it would
be hard to support simply "going wherever you say." _All_ of us should have
a voice, and many, many people _outside_ of Minnesota, have chimed in. I am
hardly convinced there is a definitive pluarlity here, much less a majority.
Again, if you would _please_ disclose data on number of "firm" commitments,
and locations of those players, it would go a long way towards making us all
feel "a part of" the decision, and it would certainly define the process more
clearly, so all involved have an understanding of how you're going about
making a decision.

Why Minneapolis? The vote has not finished and I saw few partisans
espousing the cities virtues (No offence to those who did). Florida,
so overwhelmingly obvious that it didn't need to be added to the
poll, Washington or Chicago all seem better choices. How about one in
Florida/Washington and one in Chicago with a week in between for me
to pretend I'm in 'Two Lane Blacktop'?
Are there no players on the West Coast?
