Fellowship of the Ring

So.... what did we think of the film then?

Thumbs up from this quarter. Sure they took a few liberties with the characters and plot (Aragorn not sure of his destiny? Please!) but overall even Tolkien himself would've been pretty pleased. The dialogue remained remarkably close to the book, and even the visualisation of some of the scenes and action fitted neatly in with the book's details.

Thought Gandalf was brilliant and both Aragorn & Boromir particularly well acted. Not so sure about Gimli though, he faded into the background a bit -- although my mate who has never read the book tittered a bit with his line "Nobody tosses a Dwarf"... no comment  !!!

And just how cool are the Nazgul? Respect is due.

Would like to hear what you guys made of it all!

Top Notch!

Just got back from it and I can't get over the Balrog.
How friggin sweet was that!!!!

I echo most of the comments here. Boromir
particularly well cast, the scenery wsa incredible.
The liberties taken, in my mind, were fine - I
actually thought there would be more transforming such
a work into film. Moria - VERY impressive, best part
in my opinion.

The only thing that annoyed me, and I don't know why,
was ... how the river was called. I dont want to give
it away, although jsut aobut every LOTR site already
complains about it, but for some reason that bugged
me. But I'm considering going to see it with my mate
whose wife wont go with him - an easy 2nd viewing.

Very very cool. It's certainly one of the most actionpacked movies
I've ever seen - and without loosing it's Tolkien feel. It has
fantastic scenery and everything just feels like it's Middleearth.

The actors were all great, but Sean Bean as Boromir, was probably the
best, with Gandalf a close second.

I love the dangerous edge they've given to Elrond and Galadriel, no
little cute elves here!

A definate must see (which I will again later today!)

RD: The scenery, special effects and crucially the casting, were excellent.
There were some liberties taken, eg Arwen doubled as Glorfindel during the
race to the ford, and Saruman was credited with creating the Uruk-hai!
WHAT? Sauron is coming back from the grave to haunt the director even now!
Oh, and did you notice that two of the elf-archers in Lorien were female?
Was that due to political correctness or to provide eye candy? But overall,
a brilliant interpretation and yes I will go to see it again.

Richard.

RD: Yeah, when I saw Viggo Mortensen in stills prior to the film's release,
I thought he looked the part. But I have to say that whilst Viggo was good
as Aragorn, Sean Bean's Boromir had the greater screen presence.
