fFS 18/4/00

Cos we realise how hard it is for foreign players to get money to us so
don't want to add the extra inconvenience of players having to
pay more when
this is the only viable method of paying (realistically).

You can give me your bank account details ? I'm sure I will only transfer
stuff in (how I wish I was good in poker when I say stuff like that).

It also means the UK players get charged 5% for the hassle you go thru for
credit card transactions. I realise cash is still a good way to pay, but I
was thinking that its not hard to accept credit cards. In oz credit cards
are the preferred way to pay, as companies let the computers do all the work
in tranferring money from one account to another (whereas cheques are more
time consuming - especially between different banks). Cash payments are nice
since they result in a lower bill (methinks its about leaving no paper trail
for the taxman to follow - or else its am immediate payment for those honest
people amongst the readers)

Smailing money would be another common way of paying you (i've still got 40
pounds somewhere in my place from when I was thinking of joining another UK
game). The postal service between here and there is trustworthy, they just
say "don't do it". I think since they don't want to be sued.

I was thinking it was some UK law that says 'pay the goverment more for all
UK transactions'. In oz we are bringing in a GST charge of 10%. If I sell a
part to a local, I will add 10%. But if I sell it to an overseas person, I
don't add 10%. I was thinking your 5% was using the same logic.

Foreign players have to pay more for turns, reason being there
is more work
involved and costs in running a game for such players.

???

I think a email player down the road, and an email player on the other side
of the world are just two email players.

I think the main problem would be
a) the hassle of converting overseas money.
b) the time difference, both the time (trying to find when both are awake),
or the dates. Saying due before the 20th could mean the 20th my time, or the
20th your time.

But I would think email players would be the same. Both ready to jump up and
down over the slightest mistake or misunderstanding.

As for your cunning plan, we'd probably notice....

I have another cunning plot. I will give myself a yahoo email address, give
a fake postal address (tolkien's old address comes to mind), say i'm english
(what humilations I have to go thru to save a few pence), and see if local
players do get cheaper turns.

I would expect smailers to be charged more than emailers (as you need to
physically produce a turn for them). Between emailers I would charge the
same amount.

(Cunning as a fox
m'lord).

still liked the final blackadder when baldric finally had a plan that would
work (ie getting a splinter from the ladder to wound them before they jumped
over the top).

thanks
m

p.s I've heard that a new blake's 7 is being made. Any news about that ?? I
think its for an american audience, and I'm sick already.

why is there a 5% charge for UK credit card payments ?

I wonder if I could allow UK players to give me their money (I would

charge

less then 5% BTW), and then I pay Clint for the turns using

my credit card

(no 5% charge for me, as I'm not a UK based person).

Very strange.

p.s and no, I don't want overseas money slushing in my

accounts. Seems the

police might think i'm doing something illegial (aussies are

generally

smarter than that when it comes to breaking the law - just

look at the

Heh another fan of Blake's 7... coolllll... The rest can wait until I
wake up...

And in England by and large. Could this just be a case of some backward
thinking in the Principality?

The 5% surcharge comes across as petty and niggling. Most shops &
services dropped the idea of credit card services years ago. That's
because they want to give out a message that says - we are keen to
accommodate our customers. They know that by asking for a surcharge on
some types of payment, a few customers are liable to get irritated, say
"Oh s*d that!" and take their custom elsewhere.

If Harlequin want to rest on their laurels at 29 games, then that's the
way to go about out. If they want to attract the maximum amount of
customers, they should make payment as simple as possible. If costs
really are an issue, you'd do better to hike all charges by 3 or 4%
rather than appear to be thumbing your nose at the 21st Century.

BTW if you want to pay my consultancy fee by credit card, there is no
surcharge
