Flavour text for Certificates

Okay we're working on a new format for rewards at the end of the game - a
little thankyou for each player that plays on the winning team.

With that in mind we need a lot of quotations from Lotr, Hobbit etc which
are suitable for each nation in the game. Length one sentence long and sort
of encapsulating the feel of the nation.

Eg
Noldo: Mightiest of the Elves who inhabited Middle-earth were the Noldor,
and most far famed in the songs and tales that have come to the ears of Men.

We need quotes for each nation for each scenario and maybe a few that we can
use for 1000 games as well as Bofa.

Anyone want to help out with this?

Thanks
Clint

Does it have to be a quote (or combination of quotes) or can we just make something up with the right flavour? You have made up the bit about Noldo, altho the first bit starts like a line in the Silmarillion, which I can't find at short notice, but goes: "Mightiest and fairest of all the peoples of Middle-earth were the Noldo..."

Thinking about it, you're going to have to make up quotes for the different orc-nations of Mordor.

From the volcanoes of Mordor the Fire King summoned his evil hordes, flame-eyed and swart-skinned; their onrush was as hot and furious and destructive as the lava flows of the land from which they sprang.

Of all the Mordor nations, none was feared more than the Cloud Lord, whose strength lay not in armies, but in murderous creatures of shadow and cunning, who slipped undetected through enemy defences to deal sudden death to their leaders.

His spells ruling the weather from the frozen mountain peaks, the Ice King recruited his minions, pale of eye but dark of heart, who descended like an avalanche upon their spellbound foes.

I'll stop there, but if you like those, lmk and I'll come up with some more. But make it quick, because my first game is due Tuesday and when it arrives will have my undivided attention!

  1) Reclusive and woodcrafty were the Woodmen and Beornings usually; but when roused to wrath they were capable of fielding formidable armies.
  2) Far-flung was the mercantile realm of the Northmen, who would rather trade than fight; nontheless if roused to war they could be formidable foes.

  3) The mighty cavalry armies of the Eothraim dominate the plains of Rhovanion, and pose a constant threat to the evil nations of Mordor.

  4) In north-west Middle-earth lay the realm of Arthedain, last remnant of the once-mighty North Kingdom, whose Dunedain lords hoarded their strength against the day when they would drive all evil things out of the northlands forever.

  5) The lords of Cardolan looked to drive the borders of their realm east to the Misty mountains; but always they had to keep a watch on the uncertain south also.

  6) Proud North Gondor was the mightiest realm in Middle-earth; yet its wise lords knew that despite its impressive power on both land and sea, it would be hard pressed to hold onto its far-flung empire against its many enemies, and victory would require great skill as well as strength.

  7) South Gondor boasts the most powerful navy of the Free Peoples; yet its lords maintain constance vigilance towards the south, from whence might come too great a strength of enemy fleets for them to face alone.

  8) The Dwarf-realms, though widely scattered across Middle-earth, are nontheless respected by friends and feared by foes; for the heavy infantry who march forth from the Dwarf-mansions are second to none, and their friendship with ravens often provides useful intelligence about the foes they face.

  9) The Sinda Elves have many individual strengths but are scattered; if given time to regroup they will be a mighty nation indeed.

  10) Amongst the Noldo Elves are the mightiest and fairest individuals in Middle-earth; far from enemy lands, they have the capacity to grow in power and influence, and to support the front-line Free nations by means other than armies.

  11) The Witch-king has both powerful characters and armies in his service, yet he will need every strength, every skill and help from his allies, if he is to overcome his numerous enemies.

  12) The Dragon-lord is the most exposed of all Dark Servants to enemy action; despite his strong starting armies and powerful characters, it will require great skill and the support of his allies if he is to emerge victorious.

  13) The task of the Dog Lord is to loose enough of his warg-riders against the enemy to spread death, destruction and confusion, whilst holding Morannon against all comers.

18)From the volcanoes of Mordor the Fire King summoned his evil hordes, flame-eyed and swart-skinned; their onrush was as hot and furious and destructive as the lava flows of the land from which they sprang.

  14) Of all the Mordor nations, none was feared more than the Cloud Lord, whose strength lay not in armies, but in murderous creatures of shadow and cunning, who slipped undetected past guards to deal sudden death to enemy leaders.

  15) Secure in his fortress in the far corner of south-east Mordor, the Blind Sorceror sends forth a mighty army against the foe, whilst his many mages work to increase their power and knowledge and win victory by dark sorcery.
  >
  16) His spells ruling the weather from the frozen mountain peaks, the Ice King recruited his minions, pale of eye but dark of heart, who descended like an avalanche upon their spellbound foes.

  17) The Quiet Avenger has no obvious strengths, but many hidden talents; given proper support her nation can make a major contribution to a Dark victory.
  19) The fortunes of the Long Rider balance on a knife-edge; he is very vulnerable, but has powerful characters and armies and with early success, could make a big contribution to a Dark victory.
  20) From Barad-dur, the Dark Lieutenants send forth both powerful characters and mighty armies against the foe; this nation should play a crucial part in any Dark victory.

  21) From their secure postion, and commanding one of the most powerful navies in Middle-earth, the Corsairs should play as decisive role in deciding which side gains the ultimate victory.

  22) Possessing one of the most powerful economies in Middle-earth, the capacity to raise huge sums of gold, and recruit mighty armies, Harad is a force to be reckoned with, and should play a major role in deciding which side gains the eventual victory.

  23) The Dunlendings have both a strong army and the capacity to recruit powerful agents, so should be a major influence on whichever side achieves ultimate victory.

  24) Rhudaur occupies a vital strategic position and is likely to find itself a battleground whichever side it chooses; it will require great skill, luck and support from its allies if it is to finish the war as a major power.

  25) The Easterling nations are scattered and need consolidating, whichever side they join; but they are capable of playing an important, even decisive, role in deciding the eventual outcome of the war.

Sorry for the change of tense between the "old" suggestions and the new ones. Does it matter as, if I understand correctly, these are going to be "standalone" victory statements?

  Anyway, those are my suggestions,

  Richard.
