Fourth Age starting mages

I played my first FA game and was sorely disappointed by what happened to my beginning big mage. He started as a M60 and I selected LAT as his big spell. It came in as a casting rank of 73, which is pretty decent. However, he failed casting LAT 5-6 consecutive times. His last fail was after I had picked up a +20 mage item which took his casting to a 93. He finally succeeded after his rank went 100+ after finding another mage item.

Has anyone else had similar experiences? I hope it was just a crazy fluke and that there is not some programming barrier for starting the game with LAT.

i think you were unlucky.

There is no doubt be was unlucky. He started failing LAT for the RoW on Turn 1. And got beat down to 1 health by a Pukel Creature when his challenge was 94.

This is what you said in a thread where I had asked about consistent failure at placing camps with a 50 emissary before. I guess the same logic applies in your situation eh? heh.

You are right. It just became increasingly irritating as the fails continued. Then a fail with a rank of 93 really got to me.

There does seem to be a negative correlation on LA(T) casting with larger items being harder to cast for. I don’t think your 73 became a 33 due to the RoW being a +40 item, but then again, who really knows…?
