Who would be interested in playing some sort of Free People Last Stand scenario? This would be based on something roughly like the books where the Free Nations would be struggling to contain the might of Sauron. Basically we could set it up like 10 FP nations vs. 12 or 13 DS nations, or something like that. What it comes down to would be the Free nations being out numbered and seeing how long they could last, but here’s the kicker. The surviving Free nations, after a determined amount of turns, would then know where the One Ring is, so that would be how they could win. In a sense it would mimic the books in that the Free are doing everything possible to stay alive long enough for the One Ring to be destroyed. Obviously details would have to be worked out, and who knows if this is even possible, but if it is, is anyone interested?
What kinda DS spread. NO Duns or Rhun with the remaining 3 being DS? As its implied in the books. Duns were relatively mentioned little except for the wildmen used in the 2 towers film.
No one seems interested in a Last Stand scenario… I think it’d be kinda fun to see how much of a beating a nation could take, or if someone could do enough damage quick enough…
Wasn’t there something called a War of the Ring scenario that attempted to recreate the 2950 situation as per the Novels? Richard Devereaux comes to mind… Only difference here being that the FP discover where the ring is?
Recall in the Novels, while all these or those fools went DS, the Corsairs entire might was defeated, Saruman (and the Duns…?) were defeated, then there were big battles at the gates of Mordor. All doomie and gloomie for the purposes of the novel, but compared to the game we’re playing, certainly not a massively powerful DS stomp fest…nothing up north, nothing in Mirkwood, a couple battles eliminate neuts then Mordor contained…
Well, I dont think any of that was actually described, but there were some bits about the battles in Mirkwood and against the Dwarves and Northmen at the Lonely Mountain in Return of the King.
Also, there was a line that was something like…he is stretching out his hand and only a finger rests upon (Minas Tirith)…etc. So, I think there was a lot more DS stuff going on than was described.
Lorien was also invaded by the Dark Servants as well…
As for the scenario, I was hoping for something where the FP would be out-numbered by the DS and their only hope to win was the Ring, which they would need some sort of advantage to get over the DS. I would push for the FP to be given possession of the ring on Turn X or something to that effect.
I suggest you take some time, and create a 4th age scenario layout that matches what you want to do. If there are not kingdoms, that provides a 13 on 10 matchup. Design the nations how and where you see them, with the army sizes and SNA’s you deem appropriate. Set soft rules that prevent the location of the one ring to be issued until a certain turn, and whatever else you feel fits. Perhaps if you do the initial legwork and flesh out a design, people will be more likely to accept it and interested in participating.
If you need something outside the built in mechanics of 4th age, perhaps you could ask Clint to make some prestart “adjustments” for additional troops, or more poweful starting characters.
Every game I play is a “last stand” as my team is always outnumbered thanks to lame newts (you know who you are). Why do you think I only play pre-aligned now? Aside from my occasional forays as a lame newt.
Suggestion: use the existing WoTR scenario and tweak to suit needs.
Possible acquisition of the ring scenario:
A halfling nation? Or, one of the nations is automatically “given” a hobbit character on say, turn 11, and the location of the One Ring is at that time revealed to the nation who runs this character. The company will have to manually ensure possession of the ring for whatever limited time. Since everyone knows that the location will be revealed at this time, no Ring Located messages will be allowed. Since you don’t know Where the ring is, you don’t know How Long it will take after turn 11 to get to the big pit.
