FS 13/12

Hello Everyone

FLAGSHIP 100 has recently come out. Inside I find 11 Middle Earth reports
and 3 company reports! WOW! Most ever - thanks to all of you for the
effort you have made to do this. Awesome. Thanks also to the 76 players
who sent in their Ratings - we did nicely there - 2nd most voted for game.
Very happy with the results there... next year let's see if we can get more
uh?! Some of the other games that Harlequin run did very well here (Rumours
and Articles) and to round it out a CD from yours truly as well. So give
everyone a good slap on the back and thanks for everything - much
appreciated.

Ratings out of 10; Anticipation (A), GM (G), Depth (D), Interaction (I),
Value for Money (V) #Votes [#]

2000 A8.02 G8.26 D6.88 I7.98 V6.79 #42
2001 A8.29 G8.39 D7.24 I7.70 V6.90 #43
2002 A7.80 G8.18 D7.68 I7.90 V6.80 #76

So the anticipation has gone down slightly (clockwork turns!?), GM down
(boo!) :-), Depth has continually increased (Variants? - or the PBM market
games going down in depth), 33 more voters - upto 1% now!

CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS We're taking Monday 23rd to Friday 27th off this year.
No turns will process during that time. So if NORMALLY your turn would fall
then it will instead process the same day a WEEK later, etc. We'll have the
correct DUE date on your Turnsheet though - if in doubt get it in EARLY.
Have a good one...

UPDATE TO ACCOUNTS With each turn you should now receive in the main body of
the email a list of your last 10 transactions with us. This should enable
you to keep a track of any charges made to your account and get back to us
should there be a problem. Also we are now able to send out at the end of
each day an email informing you when we have added funds to your account and
a warning should your account be low.

NEW FAX: We've got a new North American fax number :

1-503-296-2325.

If you fax there it will get emailed to us. Much better if you can use
this.

UK etc please use the old one of: 029 2062 5532

RULEBOOK 1st draft is nearly done on this. We're looking to upgrade the
rulebook. Is there anyone out there that is interested in contributing to
this project? We're hoping to help new players into the game with examples
of orders, some tactical advise and basic economy, army, character, Pop
Centre management. Feel free to get in touch if you feel you are able to
help here or just want to know more. We've got permission to use
appropriate quotes from "the Lord of the Rings" and "the Hobbit". Around 3
or 4 paragraphs in length, giving a reference (book and chapter). Feel free
to send in your favourite quotes and we can add them into the rulebook.
Note NOT the other books only LotR and tH. We have a fair bit of work done
for this now - anyone else want to contribute?

We've recently updated our service to include (when we have time which at present we have); Courtesy Funding, turn request day before, account balances (last 10 transactions) and Charges for turns notifications. (See below for an example). Thoughts on this? Good, bad, irrelevant? We've got some more plans for similar stuff in the future but for now I am interested in some feedback on this.

After running the turns today your balance is now: 9.88 UK Pounds. You might want to consider if you need to fund your account in the near future. You might receive later emails - we've not yet found an efficient way to remove them. The Lowest balance is the correct one.

Hello Paul - unfortunately the last 15 attempts to send turns to you keep not getting to you. We're not getting bounces or any error messages. can you please chat to MSN and ask them what the problem is? In personal preferences there is a section for spam email - try removing us from that. (Probably something to do with certain attachments/size of emails or similar). The other option is changing your email provider.

Please confirm that you have done all the above if you can.

You can get emails from this address as the address is mepbmlist@yahoo.com not me@middleearthgames.com where we send turns from. IE I don't think you have corrected the spam emails in your personal preference... (Ie you appear to not have received the emails from us asking about such information).

I hope you find this useful and not too abrasive, 15 times...

Thanks

Clint

See I got this one,

After running the turns today your balance is now: 9.88 UK Pounds. You
might want to consider if you need to fund your account in the near
future. You might receive later emails - we've not yet found an efficient
way to remove them. The Lowest balance is the correct one.

  Good Gaming,

What's "turn request day before"? I get my turn a day early?

We've recently updated our service to include (when we have time which at
present we have); Courtesy Funding, turn request day before, account
balances (last 10 transactions) and Charges for turns notifications. (See
below for an example). Thoughts on this? Good, bad, irrelevant? We've
got some more plans for similar stuff in the future but for now I am
interested in some feedback on this.

*** Anyone you can find to pay your turn is fine with us...

*** Just a reminder if we haven't got your turn.

We've recently updated our service to include (when we have time which at

The courtesy funding mail is good - have already benefitted - it would be even better if we could also have a mail a few days before a game starts, particularly a tweaked game with payment premium, starts. Two startups in a tweaked premium game followed by 3 positions in other games on the next two consecutive days (as I recently had) takes a big whack out of the account balance very suddenly.

Yes, seems OK. Now what I'd like to see you next introduce, is player input as to when games run. I currently have 5 positions in 3 games, and those 3 games run on consecutive days. In two of those games I'm playing with almost the same team - it would be more fun if those games had have been staggered so that they processed on alternate weeks.

*** Bit difficult to guess when a game starts and players like to have their turns right away. My advice - if you are starting in a new game keep your funds at a high enough level to cover set-up fee.

*** I do this if players ask me before the game set-ups. Can't always manage it but often I can swop weeks.

Clint

All the new features sound great. Keep up the good work!

So when will automagic be updated to download the economic info (the amount
of gold, revenue, product stores, market values, etc, all of which could
also be included on the .xml file) and process this info into the
"calculators" section of the spreadsheet? Doing this would only make sense
as Clint and co. seem to be trying to "dummy proof" the game and help the
newer players out. It would save THIS dummy a few minutes each turn and,
ahem, allow me to play in more games at one time.

Russ

The account balance / transaction history is nice. Not earth-shattering, I'll
grant, but incremental tweaks are good too. Not sure about the Courtesy
Funding, personally I'd rather have a big warning on my turn along the lines of
"YOU DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH CREDIT TO PROCESS YOUR NEXT TURN - SEND CASH!", but I
appreciate that people playing multiple games might need more explicit warning
and with more cash in the bank.

Maybe something dynamic that warns you when account balance < active games x
turn fee? ( x number of 'buffer' turns?)

No idea what the other two are all about...

Regards,
Tim.

We're working on something like this.
