FS 18/2

Hello Everyone...

3/2 The currency change has been done: North American players are now being
charged in US Dollars ($5.80), Australasian players in Australian dollars
(AU$9.90) per turn, and all others in UK pounds (3.90) per turn.

The following new games are filling up (note please ask for variant games we
can try to get you opposition for them if you are interested - mostly Grudge
teams though - if I get 10 players for any single type of game then I will
put it up for general availability below and push it):

Bofa: [Game 10] 2wk turnaround game - Veteran or Beginners game - (Vet: ALL
1650 orders available): All available.
Last Alliance [Game 144]: Send me a list of 5 nations. 2 nation game. Ask
for details. 19 players so far.
1650 2wk [Game 14]: Available 1-58-10, 15-23, 25
2950 2wk [Game 232]: Email game. 2 nations taken. Send me a LIST of
nations - when I get to 25 players I will allocate the positions from the
list of nations you send me. (Note 95% of players get their 1st choice)
1000 2wk [Game 143]: Normal game - only one nation per alignment allowed
+20% kid/ass SNA (subject to player approval). 19 nations taken. (OR
Limited assassination game [LAS] )

Grudge Games we need opposition for:
2950: None
1000: None
1650: 1 World Championship team, Tommy, Mike B
WoTR: None Last Alliance: None

I have drop-outs available - don't forget you get a free turn for taking
these up...
E [Early] = 0-10 turn, M (Midgame]= 11-20, L [Late game] = 21+ [A= Aligned
if a Neutral, N= not aligned if a Neutral]
1000: 3 Nations
2950: 11 (e), 17 (e)
1650: 22 (en)

15/2 Game 61 DS win:
As the Dark Lord looks upon the breadth of his domain he smiles. The key
areas of battle lie in Mirkwood where his stronghold of Dol Guldor
maintained by the second is situated and at the Gap of Isen where the West
attempted to penetrate. It is in these areas that his powerful lieutenants
and his newly found Easterling and Harad allies crushed the free of Game 61
after sweeping the Dunedain of Gondor and the Horse Lords before them. With
the death of many of the Noldo's greatest heroes and other powerful lords of
the west including the kings of the Dwarves, the Sinda Elves, and Gondor,
the carnage reaped in these regions have made him smile. Those pitiling few
remaining will now pay homage to Sauron, the Dark Lord of Mordor.

Thanks, Lucas Cuccia, Cloud Lord Game 61, Now (for real) Signing Off

Player report Game 40: After much discussion and a year of play the
remaining FP have agreed to concede the game to the Dark Servants.

A well fought contest with quite a few unusual twists and turns.

Hats off to the SK, Becketities, Chimetts, and Barak-Dun players for holding
the front lines. A nod to the Scourges and Ankor Dammaz for staying in the
game even though we took their capitals.

Our three weakness companies and early strong play could not in the end
overcome the failure of all the nations on our side to rally to our cause as
well as our own mistakes and events beyond our control to wit:

The seekers voluntarily shutting down his nation early on ( I still cant
believe it) The adans player non-communiative and dropping or bankrupting
himself Valinor dropping w/o notification and wasted time picking him up
Snow and Wolves dropping, losing turns picking them up

Our misguided attempt to save the Dominion, which hurt us more than helped
us

Of course, our share of mistakes, especially the newbies

And the kicker: Harley allowing the NK to be picked up t14 or so as a
neutral (past allegiance change) and his joining the DS. Had the position
stayed empty (as Deft and GSI policy dictated) the northern FP would have
stood a decent chance of staying alive. But alas, we were the guinea pigs
(Harley changed their policy after our complaints).

An interesting twist, NKA. Would do things differently now that I'm a
veteran of the scenario. May we meet again on the field of battle (Last
Alliance anyone?)

Tribes of Zoar, Blackwood Elves, Stonewarders, Red Banner, Valinor, Guild
(and hopefully Sons of Legolas)

18/2 Game 227: As some of you (if not all) are no doubt aware I have been
investigating the situation of a challenge that occurred @2414 between
Celedhring (DS) and Helkama (FP), and the previous turn had done a 930 at
that location. As there was no way to get the information other than by
some duplicitous or cheating means I chatted to a number of players.

Matt Thompson (FP) and Steve Mason (DS) (an old Middle Earth player)
contacted me asking to play in the same game on opposing sides. After a lot
of thought I decided that, as they gave their word to play correctly, that
this would be okay. Steve set up an email account for Matt and then used
that account to contact the FP asking them to send the turn reports and
information to an email account owned by him. Matt says he did not allow
Steve to do this.

The FP then followed up this request, hence that turn reports were sent out
to Steve as well. The DS then used that information as above. Matt had
also missed two turns of the game, despite informing us and his team that he
would be getting turns in.

With that in mind I am giving Steve Mason a 6 month ban, and the same for
Matt. Matthew Pearce is getting a warning for his conduct as well. It's
rather shameful to have to do this - it's the first time in 8 years of GMing
that I have to ask a player to leave the game and I find the entire
situation distasteful.

With that in mind I have the following "easy" fix:

The Challenge @2414 does not occur and I move Celedhring to his capital hex,
along with any other DS that might be in that location. I will resurrect
Helkama and allow any encounter that might have occurred there to occur.
With the QA being asked to leave, the DS need to find a replacement player
there please. As not all the DS are guilty of improper action here I ask
that the Neutrals try to play appropriately - a 5 nil (or similar) change
against the DS is just going to make the situation worsen and will
eventually end the game unsatisfactorily for all concerned. I also ask that
the DS do not use any information that they might have gained from Steve's
illicit use of Matt's position. Can we then try to put this situation
behind us and get on with the game?

Please get in touch with me concerning your thoughts on this situation asap.

(Please note we have two Steve Masons playing in Middle Earth, there is the
above and also a Steve Mason from the USA. Please don't mix them up!) This
information will be put on the Front Sheet and the List.

30/1 Two Face to Face events planned: One in the UK one in the US.

UK Game: We're now planning a Cardiff game July26 (Fri) - 28th (Sun) So far
we have 18 (+4 possibles) players for that. For those that that can't make
the Friday it's fine to have turns run by someone else for the Friday.
(Start early Friday afternoon).
US Game: Venue to be arranged. One in Minneapolis (very likely) and one in
Washington DC/Las Vegas OR Chicago Date 14-16th June (Fri-Sun) and 8-10th
June (Sat-Mon) . Same format as below. 67 players interested

UK: A deposit of 15 is needed per position. Turns cost 2.90 for the 1st
position and 2.50 for the 2nd position per turn.
US costs: $4.10 or $3.50 for the 2nd position, with $50 for flight and $25
deposit. (I estimate around $125 for US players for the w/end plus whatever
expenses you have). With 18 turns run.

Thanks

Clint

Curious: What happened to game 133? I thought 132 was filled and
going, while 133 was accepting? (1 week 1650). Haven't seen it
up the last few FS's...lack of interest?

Curious2: There was a request for a 10 man FP team and the
5 neutrals recently. Was that filled so quickly..? I'm on
a 10 man FP team looking for opposition in a 1 week game, and
we notified the company within 2 days of that request...I'm
just shocked that you'd find so many FP teams in one week! I
thought everyone loved the DS....who's got a 10 nation 1 week
DS team? Contact Clint....

Cheers,

Brad B.

Comiserations Steve. I endorse Clint's decision to ban the guy, though I think the decision to name and shame him to the whole community in this list is a little problematic. Sympathise though with the difficult position that cheating puts a GM in, and the unpleasantness of the task of having to sort it out.

Every time you meet new players now you'll have to introduce yourself as "Hi I'm Steve-Mason-But-Not-The-One-Who-Cheated." Pehaps this is why so many of your countrymen like their PBM aliases so much!
