2/10 PUBMEET News: Flyer & Firkin on the Saturday 4th November from 1pm
onwards. Games, and entertainment (well us) there. It's in Reading
opposite the train station - dead easy to get to.

6/10 Game 26 (2950) has finished with a mass concession to the FPs. I
think the plucky DS having gone through an average of 2 players per
position deserve a round of applause for sticking with it. Not to take
anythign away from the team work of Melissa Wall (SG individual win),
Corsairs (Pontus Gustavsson) and a nice surprise with Rhudaur in 3rd (Jason
Bennett).

2/10 Game 36 (not a World Championship game - my apologies) has ended with
a concession to the might of the USA (and token Brit). This 12vs 12 saw a
lot of team-work on the USA side bringing in a win on turn 17. Individual
laurels to Blaine Emmons (SG) on 1850 VPs, Ben Shusan (Cor) on 1692 and Nik
Barnes (Nold) on 1517.

I have drop-out positions available in a number of games - don't forget you
get a free turn taking these up..

2950: Northmen, Blind Sorcerer (early), Corsairs (early game)
1650: Northmen, Cardolan, Easterlings
Fourth Age: 2 floating Neutrals.

26/9 PLEASE PUT YOUR ACCOUNT NUMBER WITH ANY EMAILS SENT TO US.

and the following new games filling up:

Fourth Age or 2950 12 vs 12(13) team available.
We also have a 12 player team for a 1650 game DS. Needs FP opposition.
2950 [Game 21] UPTO 2 nations 2950 game: Available: ALL except 1,10,23,24
1650 [Game 55] Normal 1650 game: Available: 1-6,13-21,23,25
1000 [Game49]: New game, 2 Floating Neutrals so far.

26/9 PLEASE PUT YOUR ACCOUNT NUMBER WITH ANY EMAILS SENT TO US.

5/9 Game 21: (Can play only nation if you want) Allocation of the
positions. (Neutrals one nation as per norm though). Woodmen/Noldo,
Northmen/Dwarves, Northern Gondor/Southern Gondor, Sindar Elves/Riders of
Rohan, Dundan Rangers/Silvan Elves.

Witch King/Fire King, Dog Lord/Dragon Lord, Ice King/Dark Lieutenants,
Blind Sorcerer/Long Rider, Cloud Lord/Quiet Avenger

I concur with Laurence on this one...

I'd like to see the victory points system used only as an indication of
power during the game, and the winning (and losing) team asked to vote for
the most influential nation on their side. The nation which has the most
votes on the winning side is the winner, and the nation which has the most
votes on the losing side is the runner up.

This might eliminate the current situation which rewards hoarding gold,
improving pop centres and not risking your armies in combat. (Otherwise
known as 'Noldo disease').

Not that I really care who wins

Thanks for clearing the record, Ben. I'd hate to be confused for a
lesser neutral!

To echo Lawrence's comments elsewhere, I certainly wasn't the third best
player in the game (and we all know SG wasn't the best...), so many
thanks to my excellent team. It truly was a team win!

Yes, and I can't really take any credit for the Corsairs position.
Jason Vafiades played the it to the second position and I only took
over after he quit. My own nation (Duns) missed the top three, but
who cares anyway. Like Jason B said, it was a team win, and I'm
satisfied with my part. The DS have my full respect for sticking in
there like they did, against a very well functioning FP team. Thanks
to Ben Shushan for turning eight nations into a tight team, and the
newer players on our side did an outstanding job too! There were
actually two teams on our side. We never heard anything from NG/SG,
so
I can't agree with Jason that they didn't play the best, but I think
the rest of us had the best teamwork!

Well, that was actually my point. South Gondor won because they never
talked to the rest of us, and played for themselves only. If the DS
hadn't been in such disarray, this could have cost us the game.
Honestly, I was considering going after them if the game lasted much
longer. While I could care less about winning (the VCs are silly), I
dislike someone else getting the profits of victory at the cost of the
rest of us.

with regards victory points, being a new starter i thought about this and
agree with but pick top three of your team and one of the opponents.
winning isnt everything but loosing sucks!!!!

Anyone who wants to write up a report and give to me would be greatly
appreciated. Happy not to put the VPs as I agree that they are a
distortion of who did the work. Mind if I quote your bit below on the FS?

Yes that would be great. There was a nice idea on this earlier - So please
take this opportunity to vote. I shall try to get in touch with the players
in the game but if the Team captains can help out that would be cool as
well. Free turn to the winners on this as well as a tester. if it works
then I shall look into getting it onto other games that finish.

My suggestions (based on earlier ideas) are:

Best (Your team player)
Best (most pain in the derrier) opposing team player.

One free turn to each winning player. (Has to be an outright winner - not
10 players "sharing" the prize for now - we can look into the other stuff
later.)

do I defend the players actions in any manner of form.

If you're going to have a vote and prize for best player, there are some
other issues to decide:

1) Deadline. You should always set a deadline when you call for a vote.
We lost #36 mostly due to very poor communication.

2) Ballot. Is it secret or open? I would much prefer secret, but if
you don't urge people to keep their votes secret, there will be those
that say "I voted for you mate" (suck suck suck) and so on.

3) Result. Are the numbers of votes declared, or just the winners? I'd
prefer just the winners - it's slightly less democratic, but it is much
friendlier.

That is NEVER an excuse for failing to communicate. Some of us
greybeards remember when nobody had e-mail. We wrote letters and made
phone calls. For a number of games in the past I have acted as link for
a snailer, who wrote or phoned me so that I could e-mail out his news.
For some I've even printed off all the e-mails and sent them.

I used to play a game in US where I had to snail-mail some of the players
and where the other player would snail mail me back. My mail from Malaysia
takes about 2 weeks to reach the US and vice-versa. Then there were French,
Canadian, etc players as well. I dropped the game after I noticed that the
paranoia Malaysian Customs likes to delay the Malaysian Post in sending me
my turn reports (which was snail-mailed) by keeping them and wondering
what are orcs, goblins and such are, which resulted in me missing quite a
number of turns.

In my first me-pbm, we used the in-game messages, the GM will forward the
snail mail players messages to me by snail-mail.
