Since our victory in ME 29, the first game of the WotR scenario, some members of my team, and some of the opposition, have been up for a rematch.
Clint, I've sent you several emails on the subject, but not had one direct reply. Instead, I discovered, largely by chance, that you had put the "advert" for the rematch in the FS.
The problem is that nobody reads the FS!
Let me explain: A Player gets his turn. He checks to see he is till in credit and he checks to see that all his team-mates' turns got processed. Then he skips the rest because he wants to see what happened in his turn! Also, I expect, a majority of players play to their game capacity and therefore aren't interested in new games until one of their current ones finishes.
I know it means a little bit more work for you, but it would be much better to "target" info about new games - especially variants! - to those players who are receptive, if not to each player, then at least to the captain/organisers and let them do their own recruiting.
I know see that the WotR replay is ME97 and neutrals are pre-aligned:
Rhun, Duns, WWiz to FP, Khand & Cors to DS.
Just in case anybody missed it (like I did until recently!)
Richard.

As a hoary ancient Yank who played under GSI, let me add 3 thoughts.
1) I used to read announcements in my turn sheet (as GSI and Deft
presented them) more regularly than I read the FS announcements from
ME Games. It's just easier to deal with a single document than with
two.
2) In grudge games, GSI/Deft dealt directly with the team captains,
asking only that individual players confirm their interest by
sending in brief notes and payment. They did not announce grudge
games in any general medium. By definition a grudge game is a closed
affair and the general public does not need to know about it. There
is a partial exception to this rule for non-prealligned neutrals,
but even there a truly fair game is better protected by drawing
neutrals from a general pool of players interested in playing
neutrals, not from players recruited for a specific grudge game. Too
much chance of having a Neut come in predisposed toward a particular
team if he was recruited for that specific grudge game.
3)In non-grudge games the above does not apply. Open games imply a
first-come first-served policy best achieved by general
announcements. The current practice of announcing both here and on
the FS makes sense.
Please don't take this as a generally unfavorable comparison. On the
whole I think service from the new gang has been better than that
from GSI or Deft. (Except, of course, for Stuart, who is the same
dolt he always was.) (Little joke, there, Stuart. Do you read these
things?)
I would actually quite like to accept your surrender now.
Get Bent! :o)

Eothraim 78
Now that was a message that was on this main list a little while ago. About
turn 4 or 5 I believe in the game. Now that would seem to indicate that the
Free would actually have a little backbone. However strangely enough turn 10
arrived two days ago and would you believe it we had actually won!!!. It
seems that all the Free had been eliminated ?
Despite us losing the Quiet Avenger (A bit of bad luck), The Fire King
(Never heard from him) and the Blind Sorcerer early on (bankruptcy playing a
major factor in all) and therefore having a lack of finding artifacts, loss
of the strong emissaries and most of the defence for the Ithil Pass the free
never managed to cause us any great harm (This includes Rhudaur turning Free
on turn 2 and not managing to kill our slightly quiet Witch King). We didn't
hear much from the Ice King either.. and our Dog Lord player never put in a
turn until we got ourselves another one.
I would really quite like to know what was going on.. If there are any Free
in game 78 would like to tell me why they are dead by turn 10 and why the
surrendered so easily please let me know.
Although a big thankyou to the following
Lorenzo Ricagni (Good play of the Cloud Lord until he left the game)
Scott Moyes (Harad)
Robert Hine (Dragon Lord)
Paul Bendall (Replacement Dog Lord)
David Crane (Dark Lieutenants)
Thomas Kampmann & Luis Gambarte Sanz (Witch King and Ice King respectively)
The nameless ones who were unfortunate to go out early
Seems there was a group of free who joined together, 5, I believe.
None were playing NG or Eo. When the NG player didn't get along
with them, people started leaving. Dunlendings posted saying it
was the worst pbm experience of his career.... Team collapse,
nothing to do with Middle Earth, unfortunately.
