FTF from your own home early 2008

“From the recent MEPBM email I received it spoke of “an entire game in a weekend”. The link enclosed summarized FTF meetings, but the email suggested they could be run online as well … such that everyone did not need to travel to a single location. Am I reading this correctly? If so, I am very interested in getting an online weekend game arranged for some time in early 2008.”

That’s an option, hadn’t thought of it, but ideally we’d like to be at the location the team is playing. We could try it if you guys would like to. There’s the obvious time difference problem of course but if were to play for 3 days that would work (usually we stop early Sunday so that everyone can get back and wind down, but if everyone is home that would work fine).

There is an option of playing US v US and we work weird hours - that’s fine.

Also thoughts on communication between the team - is there a fast way if you’re situated in different locations?

Any interest in this from others?

There’s some issues to resolve.

  1. Communication between team-mates.
  2. Speed of play (1 and a half hours is what we usually run - 1 1/4 is possible but somewhat stressful although we might be able to go for 1hr as there’s no printing.
  3. Time of playing - if we’re international then that’s awkward but if we’re Europe or US only based it’s quite possible for us to do this.

I can set-up a yahoogroup for each team so that I upload the turns there each turn and send out a message.

I’d be happy to try this as an experiment…

We’re also possibly looking to have a Grudge team play another Grudge team on this format. Any interest?

Clint

I’m interested. As a part-time couch potato during college football and basketball, I find it more appealing to spend a w/e at home than take a w/e fling to Europe. For some reason my wife and I do not see i to i on this topic. I’ll follow along the thread and send the email if interest is high.

If I’m remembering right, something like this was tried with Adventurer Kings some time ago.
I think it was okay.

Have Fun!

I think it’s interesting… We have groups longing for the old days of the Fog of war from the esnail days… Here we have groups utilizing the the speed of the internet to represent alos those old days sometimes recieving a turn late… writing orders in few hours to run to the post office and mail them the same day…

But as for comunication there are so many options now… Net meeting via messenger services… To plain old IM’s… Since Yahoo.groups are so popular and yahoo messenger service decent and fairly reliable. Communication can be fairly good… With usersgroups and pdf sharing good picture of what’s happening even in this fast format… Add a good mapper you can even get a better picture han face to Face in person… Of course if the in person face to faces laptops brought would speed up even those events…

I also heard your testing 2 turn per week games… I know I really enjoy the one week format I’m sure this format will be a success particularly responsive to the dead of winter heavy gamers …

I would be up for this…

What would be the cost? As with most things, money talks (or in this case, lack of money talks).

Not sure yet, it would depend on how many we get. The more we get the lower we can cost it at.

Clint

Sounds like a lot of fun to me.
Keep me posted as well.

Id be interested CLint, if UK players are ok that is… Mind you I’d dearly like to get to a cardiff FTF again too. Tagging along with Bryn and Gary maybe.
