Future North American Conventions

One of the things whilst chatting to the players (around 8 of us got
together Thursday night and chatted for a couple of hours - t'was most fun!)
that came up was doing some sort of Demo game at a convention. Maybe we
could fit that in with a FTF game?

If so who would be interested in that? We'd have to invest a lot of money
to get a laptop Mac amongst other things so we'd need serious commitment if
the players want us to do this.

Any thoughts/feedback?

I'd look into renting or borrowing the laptop if the money is difficult to
justify. There are a lot of companies in Europe and the US that rent out for
short periods at what look like fairly reasonable rates.

On the other hand, if you bought the thing, you'd be able to resolve the PDF
font problem... You might also want to consider a s/hand PowerBook.
Contact me offlist if you want details: I know a company that can help.

That'd be great, but how many cons are there big enough ot justify that? Origins, GenCon and DragonCon are the only ones I can think of immediately.

YES DRAGON CON!!!! I could actually make it to that one. Hmm . . .shouldn't
have said that. Clint and co. will certainly avoid it knowing they would
bump into me.

It would depend on where the event would take place. Southern California would be great since it is the center of the universe

Clint,

You know my opinions already.

Los Angeles or San Diego have major events that reach a healthy
number of people.

Either of these sites are great for SO-CAL.

Sign me up for volunteer work and/or participant at either location.

I would make the trip to either!

Just $.02 from the slow, backward south ...

Dragon Con is _heavily_ attended, and Atlanta is one of the the busiest
airports in the world. Delta can get you here from _anywhere_.

I would, of course, help in any/every way I could ...

And, if you're doing a true, full FTF, I'd go to another city (Delta
_does_ fly everywhere ... ).

Well, finally caught up on this thread...

Just a few thoughts.

Demo game would be a good thing, although you may be able to
accomplish the same thing by having sample turns available for
several consecutive turns. Such a display would let nwepeople see
what the game is about.

I would beware of attempting to do a FtF at a convention. A FtF
would likely take up most of the time at the convention and would
therefore preclude any other gaming. Not sure how many people are
open to this. I personally would not participate at a convention.
Since this is such a focused effort, it seems best to keep it
separate from other events.

In regards to a US FtF. I would love for one to occur but remember
the annoyance of the last attempt. There were way too many people
who were unwilling to compromise on location while at the same time
were not able to offer up facilities for gaming in their area. I
figure that this will continue to be the case and have decided to
attempt to attend a FtF in Cardiff. I'd love to go out drinking with
Ulrik again! (last time was in Copenhagen and was a great time, even
though I did get in trouble for that)

When is the next UK FtF?

*** Not quite. Describing the game, and we have done it a lot, takes a while to explain and showing exactly how you move an army to hex 2627 is not going to work.

*** Provisionally March. I don't want to start taking names for that yet though so please be patient.
